Doyle In After Knibbs Departure
05 August 2025
By Hob Nob Anyone?
Reading have completed the loan signing of Kamari Doyle from Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion. The arrival of Doyle on a season long loan follows the departure of Harvey Knibbs last week.
Doyle is a 20 year old midfielder who comes to Reading looking for regular game time. He came through the youth set-up at Southampton and made his Premier League debut at the end of the 2022/2023 season, coming on as a late substitute in a 3-1 away defeat against his current club. After failing to make another league appearance he left for Brighton in January 2024 but failed to play for his parent club and instead has spent loan spells at Exeter City and Crawley. Last season he impressed at both clubs in League One. After being a regular for Exeter, and scoring 4 goals, he joined Crawley directly from Exeter when his loan expired and made a further 21 league appearances scoring seven times. Doyle looks a great prospect and comes at a time where Reading's squad was looking thin after recent departures and the opening 0-2 League defeat at Lincoln City on Saturday.
The news follows the disappointment of Harvey Knibb's departure to Charlton Athletic just as the new League season was set to kick-off. Knibb's was a huge player for Reading, always guaranteed in the starting eleven, and will certainly be missed. Knibbs moves up a division to further his career and clearly get a much improved contract above what the Royals could offer. Knibbs joined Reading in the summer of 2023 and went on to make 100 appearances in all competitions, including 85 league starts. Knibbs was both creator and scorer - finding the net 32 times.
Last week the Royals also confirmed the the signing of Paddy Lane, who made his debut off the bench on Saturday at Lincoln. Lane joins Reading on a three year contract to keep him at the club until the summer of 2028. The 24 year old wide player has previously played for Hyde, Farsley, Fleetwood and Portsmouth.

Hunt's Plan Continues As Reading Welcome Another New Face With Potential
31 July 2025
By Hob Nob Anyone?
Having come in as Ruben Selles' replacement back in early December of last year, manager Noel Hunt continues his own preparations for the 2025/26 League One campaign that lies ahead and after a pretty good end to last season where we narrowly saw the Royals miss out on a possible Play Off run, the 42 year old former professional striker will be looking to hopefully go one step further at this time of asking and show further small improvements that boost our consistency so we can all achieve the success that we want.
It has already been quite a busy summer transfer window of change as Hunt gears up for his first full season in charge and we have seen the arrivals of Paudie O'Connor and Jack Stevens on permanent deals, whilst Matty Jacobs, Finley Burns and Mark O'Mahony have headed in on loan deals, and with five new faces under the new ownership of Rob Couhig, Hunt is adamant that he is no where near finishing his rebuild just yet.
This will be great news for fans who like a flutter with the odds it will help foster, but with online gaming like

Hunt was quite clear that he would very much like to see at least another six or seven come through the doors before we hit deadline day, and whilst obviously they may not all be fresh faces and some will likely be players now out of contract who sign extended terms, hopefully such as forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, it is certainly an ambitious project as we finally look towards a brighter future.
Fans will know themselves that there is already a new air of optimism around the club as we look forward to really starting a new chapter following all the troubles we faced under former owner Dai Yongge, but in many ways this year is not just about trying to push on and maybe enjoy a Play Off run, it is about rebuilding proper foundations so that the club can consolidate, become more stable and make all the changes that it needs to, and that applies to on and off the pitch and Hunt himself knows that whatever next season may ultimately bring for the fans, this will not happen overnight we are just making the fundamental steps on a long term plan that will take us into the future.
On Tuesday morning Hunt confirmed that another step had been made as we had secured the signing of free agent Daniel Kyerewaa following the expiration of his contract with German Bundesliga second tier side Preussen Munster.
The 23 year old attacking midfielder came through the youth ranks of Fortuna Dusseldorf before making his name in Schalke 04's B team set up, and then moving to Munster in 2023 where he has continued to impress, especially with is versatility, and he now has well over 100 appearances to his name as his experience comes through and he has continued his development as a player, which has also included working on his eye for goal.
Having put pen to paper on a two year deal with us, Hunt clearly sees him as project for the future and he remains convinced that he will make a 'big impact' with us once he settles, so it will be interesting to see how he progresses now as although he is a roll of the dice on a roulette wheel at

Reading Back On The Hunt For Promotion In 2025/26
04 July 2025

It has been a difficult few years for loyal Reading fans as football and the semblance of sports entertainment sharply took a backseat as owner Dai Yongge lurched from one unmitigated disaster to the next in what felt like his own bizarre and personal soap opera.
Tax issues and winding up orders, points deductions, relegations, a failure to pay the players and almost endless takeover talks that always broke down had left many in the faithful utterly exhausted and devoid of optimism, and although that nightmare came to an end in May with a sale to Rob Couhig finally completed, we understandably have plenty of issues to resolve as we look to put ourselves back on a firmer footing and rebuild a more solid foundation.
With some optimism renewed for the coming 2025/26 League One campaign, fans will certainly have taken plenty of heart from improved performances last term with Ruben Selles at the helm, which largely continued with Noel Hunt latterly returning to the managerial hotseat and for those fans who like a flutter promotion betting odds accuracy will be improved given we are now on a firmer footing. Having rejoined the club in early December, the 42 year old former Republic of Ireland international striker took 12 wins and ten draws from his 31 games in charge, and we ultimately finished the campaign in seventh place in the table, just three points shy of Leyton Orient who took the last promotion Play Off spot.
As Hunt prepares for a proper pre season in charge of the club, and under new ownership, he will undoubtedly be hoping to match that achievement and better still, improve on it, particularly as the club will no longer be surrounded by the complete chaos that had become our norm.
With previews and predictions for the new campaign now being made, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes that although we are now well placed to enjoy a good year, given the make up of the first team squad right now, he feels that a push for the top two spots in the table and automatic promotion would be a bridge too far, but another run at the Play Off spots could be on the cards for us.
For Goodman, he feels that the typical challengers will be there once again, but he naturally feels that relegated Championship sides Luton Town, Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle will all have a good shot at going straight back up at the first time of asking so he feels that it will be 'tough for Reading to gate-crash automatic promotion' in the year ahead.
However, he admits himself that this could all change depending on the approach that Couhig decides to take when it comes to his investment into the club, and then what kind of transfer dealings we are capable of pulling off in the next month or so.
In short, like many in the wider world of football and the Royal fanbase itself, currently he has no idea how things will shape up but it is certainly going to be an interesting journey. Most of us will simply enjoy starting a season without a points deduction to be honest.
