RoyalBlue Funny how Coppell isn't the only very good manager to rate Harper very highly!

Start listing them then??? Funny how Harper isnt mentioned as a possible transfer target if he's that good ....he's got charisma, good to be around the dressing room - but those things dont get a team promoted.

When was the last time Harper dominated the midfield in a game? - and please don't say thats not what Harper's job is!

Erm? how abot brum away? bristol city away?

Cisse was excellent against Brum, Harper was toilet and did nothing. Another superb performance by the most overrated midfielder in recent history today

His job is to run around a lot and point apparently.

And cover for players out of position.
Which is why I think we should have a 5 man midfield for away games.
Cisse to tackle, Harper to continue the flow and Matejovsky to bring a new dimension to our game.
Won't happen, though.

A five man midfield for away games would suit me fine...if I had confidence in those players.

I love how people invent new jobs for Harper. 'Continue the flow?' Why not just tackle and pass the ball on or get forward and attack? Most midfielders can do one of those two things. 'Covering' is not standing behind centre backs when we attack, it's actually getting in a proper position to make a difference.

Why the sudden need to change? The formation's got us into a good position so far, we all know that we and Wolves, Brum, etc will lose 8 to 10 matches this season. Why the panic all of a sudden? I do hope (and believe) SC doesn't react like this after a first defeat in 10 matches.

Seems as though people who didn't even go to today's game are again blaming Harper (and presumably Cisse) for being over-run in midfield.
I wonder how much help our wide men were, especially one who (in his own mind and contract) is thought to be worth £5million.

I'm not Harper's biggest fan but he has been part of pretty good side over the last 5 or 6 years, however yet again today he went missing away from home and played virtually in the back 4. I don't think Marek can play the holding role either, but perhaps it's time to see if he can with Cisse. Problem is Harper is captain and Coppell's favourite.

It's Wolves up next and I imagine Coppell will give Cisse and Harper another chance.

I'm quite a Harper fan, and I certainly don't think we have a better option than him in central midfield, but there will come a time when he's out of form and needs to be pulled out of the side

I dont think that time is now, after just one apparently bad performance on the back of 3 or 4 good ones, but it will be a test of whether or not Coppell has learnt from his mistakes last season that he needs to make changes to the side as and when things dont work

Do we have a real alternative in there though? Are Marek and Gunnar really putting pressure on whats now developed as a pretty good central pairing of Cisse and Harps

Given Wolves have good pace and width and we're going to have some sort of makeshift right back. I'd be pretty tempted to start with the system Coppell went to when he brought on Marek.

a) It'll surprise them
b) It gives us more chance of stifling their wingers

Having briefly hoped we could overtake them, I'm now back to thinking the title is a write off so beating them is not a huge issue, but equally a draw is not unrealistic and we could do without losing two on the bouce and allowing Brum to overtake us with a game in hand.

Diamond formation with Cisse deep and Matejovsky forward please for Wolves. Also Ingimarsson out and Bikey in to give a bit more strength and pace at the back and that should do the trick.

Bikey is carrying an ankle injury at the moment is he not?

Agreed with the diamond.

Diamond? Are you kidding? Narrowing our formation against a team that plays with strength, pace, and width would be tactical suicide! It would also certainly negate any attacking intent down our flanks, which in case you hadn't noticed is where the thrust of our attacks are from. We would be well and truly pasted if we played a diamond.

I'd say with Noel out of form at the moment, a 5-man midfield might be worth a try, with just Doyle up top, to enable us to play a decent midfield passing game. But we're at home so it won't happen.

We're at home against the top team in the Division. This is NOT the game to start trying new things. Too much of a gamble.

You sound like Coppell - he waits too long to change things too.
