floyd__streete Watching another plodding Long performance today got me to thinking why exactly Shane seems to get chance after chance and the likes of Mooney get shipped out without even starting a league game :|

I'd guess becasue Mooney has played a lot of games out on loan without doing anything to suggest he'd be better than what we already have.

Long worked hard to day, won plenty in the air and made their defence work hard, without himself looking dangerous. I'd have given Church a run, but then I'm not paid to make those sort of decisions !

F*ck all point Long or anyone else winning plenty in the air if there is no other player nearby to take advantage of that.

One strength of Rasiak was that he could win the ball in the air and also hold it up until support arrived.

The Rasiak who played for us didn;t do that.

And oddly Long and kebe combined pretty well first half with Long winning the headers and Kebe running on.

Nice use of the word 'f8ck' by the way.

not much else a striker can do with a long ball pumped down in the air to him other than flick it on.
that there was no one running past him, despite him clearly winning more than his fair share of headers, isnt his fault, but its no surprise the long haters are using it to berate him

It does highlight his limitations though.

I don't blame him for a lot of it because he's not being given a hell of a lot to work with, but a player more suited to the role, or just better in the air (not tha Long is shabby at winning flick ons), may have made better runs to give his team mates something better to aim at* or been able to win a few more headers and actually direct it towards areas his team-mates were more likely to be getting into (remember the likes of Ferdinand and his ability to pass the ball with his head as opposed to Long who just aimlessly flicks it).

* a lot of the long balls were pretty desperate clearances from the back in which case Long can't do a lot about it and he did suffer from our lack of composure at the back.

i just think alot of our individuals get criticism for stuff that isnt their fault. long gets it cos no one runs past him.and the midfield get it cos they are constantly bypassed with long balls over the top.

though tbf long does need to show more in games like that, and the midfield could do more with the balls they do get
