windermereROYAL Incredible they allowed Mbappe to take that, I'm surprised he was still on the pitch for it. he was awful.

I  when I saw him walking up to take must score pen No. 5.

What sort of idiot puts a young striker who has had a poor game and missed chances, plus is 0 goals in the tournament, on pen 5 in a shootout.

I don't understand the hate hes getting. Hes 22, scored in every major game hes played, scored in the world Cup final, scored against every major team possible. He had a shit game yeah but come on guys.

This tournament more than any other seems to have been the knee jerk reaction tournament. Its been quite laughable how many teams and players have been completely written off as useless after 1 or 2 sub par performances, and likewise players and teams who have not been great for years but have put on a good performance now are now being talked up to ridiculous levels

Don't see the issue with it being pointed out he has had a bad tournament, he has. To label him useless or crap is ridiculous though, he is a top player. I don't think he is helped by playing in the French league, would have loved to see him playing over here but with the finances the way they are it isn't going to happen this summer.

Who is writing him off? He had a poor tournament and didn't look in form or confident.

Penalties are a huge pressure situation, especially No 5. You don't put someone lacking form and confidence on it, especially someone young with enormous expectation on them.

This is a great tournament because a bit of organisation and determination is proving to be a leveler for the second and third tier teams because all of the top tier look vulnerable.

yesterday was a brilliant days football but I am not on board with this being a great tournament tbh. I rated it a 6.5 after everyone had played one game but would probably knock that down further now.

Jeez you're a tough critic. I think considering the disruption of the domestic season and frequency of games in the last 9 months it has been really good.

Wow. All the drama in the group of F. Eriksen's collapse, recovery and the Dane's performance since. Upsets, goals. It's very open. Reffing has been fabulous for the most part. VAR used brilliantly for the most part.

It's a minimum 8/10 for me.

NathStPaul Thought the referee was excellent tonight, deserves a lot of praise. In fact the majority of the refs have been great all tournament.

Talking of refs - I'd assumed that as it is the Euros that all the refs came from European countries but the one in France v Switzerland was from Argentina

Yeah I picked up on that. I'm guessing he might do La Liga games. That or he is just a very well thought of ref who has just been parachuted in by UEFA.

It’s an exchange deal whereby he takes charge in the Euro’s and a Spanish ref is taking games in the Copa America

Does this mean the Premier League can send Mike Dean to Mars? They have great referees over there.

Royal Rother When will the commentators stop saying “ooo, this is Ronaldo territory”?

He has scored from 1 of his last 52 free kicks in major tournaments.

Yep, thinking that myself. For the hype surrounding his free kicks, a large proportion seem to just hit the wall

Commentary were poor tonight. Dixon’s input is very limited

To be fair, whilst Matterface didn't use the 1 in 52 stat, he did at least mention that Ronaldo has a poor record from free kicks given how strong he is in open play for his goal scoring.

The Telegraph did an excellent short piece about the myth around Ronaldo'd free kick prowess in major tournaments; since his debut in 2004, of the players who have taken at least 5 free kicks in major European tournaments, the player with the best goals to free kicks ratio is...............................................................................................Gareth Bale (2 from 6).

Beckham is 5th= with 1 from 8.

Ronaldo's conversion rate (1.9%) is even lower than the conversion rate of goals from corners (approx 3%).

Messi, as a contrast to Ronaldo, has 4 goals from approx 40 free kicks.

My favourite ever freekick taker was Juninho Pernambucano

He was a oxf*rd monster at them

Ronaldo's free kicks look great when they go in. The pose, run up, knuckle ball technique, swerve, arrogant celebration. But he has scored a small number of memorable free kicks; he is not a reliable, consistent threat. Give me Trippier instead any day.

Denmark now 9/1 with Paddy Power.

Spain favourites at 10/3, then Italy & England @ 4/1, Belgium & Germany both @13/2, then Czechia (22/1), Switzerland (25/1), Sweden (40/1) and Ukraine (55/1.

Agreed, not enough crowd violence and tear ups in the hosting cities.
