The window closes at 7pm on Monday 2nd February

by Sutekh » 28 Jan 2026 10:23

Any more Reading business either in or out?

Just expecting Savage to depart to a Championship relegation battle somewhere and for Garcia to go for a pittance. Hoping though that, if Savage goes, the club would have a replacement target lined up.

I think Savage stays and Garcia leaves.

I am hoping we can get another winger, or someone like Knibbs who was really effective at the high press.

Garcia's away for a medical, so he's almost certainly leaving for Club Brugge.

I keep reading that as Club Brogue for some reason (not wanting to give Couhig any ideas on re-naming Reading)

The Savage situation aside, I'd like to see proper competition for Doyle, if we're going to persist with playing him in that number 10 role. I'd be happy for that to come from the Academy, if we have a player with the potential and quality to do the job. But I think more likely we'd bring someone in.

Just want to see a load go out on loan really. We’ve a plenty big enough squad and need consistency now

What gets me is there never seems to be any interest in our players beyond a couple suddenly dropping into the lower reaches of non league with a few of the local sides, where’s the talk and rumour about clubs wanting any of them esp. when we can loan them out anytime if it’s to NL clubs. Perhaps we’re just too low down the pyramid for anyone to think it worthwhile.

Seems common sense that if they're not getting games in a mid table league 1 team, then League 2 is going to be the absolutely ceiling.

To be fair though, for academy players, it's all about getting them game time and getting used to the routine and physicality of men's football.

Absolutely, get all that just seems to me they’re only ever taken by local sides looking for a quick bit of cover rather than as a 6-12 month loan in an actual window.

Another annoying thing - which seems to highlight the club’s attitude to coverage of the academy generally - is you don’t get any feedback on how they’re doing, so, unless you’re watching Slough regularly, you don’t really know if they’re struggling or ripping the place up.

Another winger to go with:
Ehihbhatiomhan, Kyerewaa, Williams, Lane, Ritchie, Camara, Osho etc?

How many should a club need?

Been told Kyerewaa and Williams likely to be out long term. Camara. Really? Osho not ready and Kelvin E and Lane have both been poor this season. So let’s rely on Ritchie.

Randell being out already feels like a big loss. Really like Kyerewaa's energy and willingness to try things. Okay, he's very much hit and miss, but I'd rather that, than the more steady and safe Lane or Ritchie. They both need to do a lot more IMHO.

Hard to gauge Keane, some good stuff on Tuesday, plus a goal, but some pretty sloppy touches and it very much felt like the whole team needs time to work how to utilise his strengths. Camara's probably going to go at the end of season, but TBF he has popped up with a few goals. Personally think the criticism of Kelvin E is misplaced. He's improved a lot under Leam, did a great job when Marriott was out and can play in a number of positions.

Quite like the sound of Kyreece Lisbie (Colchester) as an AM/winger in the summer. Get his brother from Peterborough as well and should be a rather potent attacking force next season.

I still find it hard to believe that a midfield of Wing, Savage and Doyle is struggling to create chances for our forwards in this league. Against Exeter in the first half for example, our possession rate was far superior than theirs which you would expect at home and with the technical skills of Wing and Savage yet the shots and chances were way more in their favour!
Is this down to the coaching, the players or the balance of the team? to be fair I'm really not to sure, probably a bit of all three.

Back to the topic of transfers! Charlie Savage, i'm pretty sure we are going to get a few more improved offers especially now a few Championship sides are showing interest. The question is do we stick or twist? I really want to keep Charlie but with the right offer plus everything i mentioned above especially the midfield balance i think it is time to say goodbye.
We have a ready made replacement in Fraser, who gave us a glimpse of what he can do a few weeks ago. He is a natural in the position and does the simple things better than savage, his passing is more accurate and with more tempo dare i say, and as we have seen he has an eye for goal.

This might not be the most popular decision but it could work, plus as mentioned, if we can get some decent money plus maybe a good sell on added to Garcia's money and sell in our pocket then it might be the right decision for the club.

I was going to jokingly say they're the sons of Reading legend Kevin. But they actually are.

Be a shame if DK is out for a while, tbf did think he may well be as he generally doesn’t miss a minute and looks our fittest player

I do think he has become increasing safe in his play recently which is also a shame - I liked him supporting the CF or right on the last man as at Blackpool and home to Stevenage

Still wouldn’t go into the market to replace him or Savage tbh (unless Rino just isn’t ready mid term for whatever reason)

Tend to agree. Kelvin was unlucky (if understandably) dropped when Marriott came back when he was playing well. Now gets 15-20 mins a game and always gets well involved and works hard if not always successfully. One of those players who people seem quick to criticise

I reckon LR would happily play him on the wing as well as Marriott/Keane more centrally but then he’d have nothing much to change up with on the bench. Maybe DK injury will give him that chance but doubt it
