The thing that frustrates me is he was sooooooo quick to get the red out. His adrenaline is flowing at that point, I appreciate the game runs on instinct but surely he could have given the (very weak) penalty then take a breath and figure out the implications for the game.

It was a weak pen, it was an even weaker red card which effectively ruined the game for 16000 of the 17000 people watching.

I know many are against VAR but it does relieve some of the pressure on refs and i'm confident that with VAR today, either he doesnt give the pen and the red or the red gets over turned.

I think the penalty is fair and Ralls has really let himself down by getting sucked into that physical battle from the wrong side.

But the ref has bought it and overreacted.

I get that its "the letter of the law" but clearly that letter is not applied in all situations... so there is clearly "wiggle room" within it.

If Hazard brought him down it wouldve been a yellow, regardless of intent.

Winds me up that something which is supposed to be entertainment is ruined by a rubbish official. Hence a score of 0!

Was in line for the forth goal (unlike the linesman!!). Looked miles offside.

debatable if its a foul, certainly not a red. Surprised he didnt step up and take the pen himself as he was that keen to have his name in lights. The FA have a respect campaign but its hard to respect a performance like that. Bizarre decisions for both sides throughout the game and a Marriott goal that looked miles offside to me


After Tolly missed his penalty, Wiredu chased the rebound and got absolutely clattered just inside the area,right in front of the Mayflower lino.

It was the most stonewall penalty of the game but completely ignored by both the ref and lino.

The performances of some of the clowns we get in this league are a serious insult to professional football.

At the game we had no idea what it was given for, we actually thought it was Joe who was sent off by the way he was remonstrating with the ref. Now Iv seen the highlights the ref had no other option. Ralls held him back and stopped an obvious goal scoring opportunity.


Have you seen the Reading fans video of the challenge. If that wasn’t a penalty and red card and it was the other way round we’d all be ranting at the ref.
Other decisions were poor, but the more I see the more it was an obvious red card and penalty.

I thought it was a soft pen and sending off. He was looking for it and the ref fell for it. But you're right it was poor from Ralls.
We played very well other than that. Tolly scores we may get a point, which was inconceivable given when we were 3-0 down with 10 men.
It was a good game other than that mad 7 mins, I enjoyed it.

Confused how someone can be "looking for it" when the opposition player has two arms around them and is dragging them backwards.

As for their penalty, I thought it was a dive, their player looked to slow down and leave his legs trailing. Having said that I always think it is an admission of guilt when a defender immediately puts his arms up like Abrefa did. I actually thought Ehibhatiomhan's trip in the immediate aftermath was more of a penalty than the one they got.

Used to quite like Plymouth, but looking at these comments and the ones on the BBC they appear to be absolute twats of the highest order.

I thought the red was a bit harsh as there were players on the line so Derrick may not have been able to just roll it in, but then again it was a completely cynical foul so they have no real reason to complain.

As Orion said, Kelvin E's trip in the aftermath looked like more of a pen for them than the initial one. But the refs are pretty rubbish all round at this level and you'll never please everyone, so that's that.

I quite like Plymouth in general but their fans are pretty delusional. I always felt that when we played them in the Championship years ago. If they win they're the greatest team ever, but if they lose it's all because of everyone else and they're the most sinned-against football team that's ever existed.

It was a game full of big decisions and the ref got all the key ones right. I think he just missed one yellow on a Plymouth player.

Maybe the Plymouth fans should be berating Ralls for ruining the match rather than the ref.

Anywhere outside the 6yd box and it would have been a yellow but it's denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Williams is 3yds out with a clear shooting opportunity and Ralls is pulling him back a good second or two before the ball arrives, then wrestles him to the floor. There's absolutely no attempt to go for the ball

If that's the other way round, I'm praying the ref bottles the red card.

I'd be cheesed off it went against us. Not loads of contact and Williams buys it, even if the ref followed the letter of the law.

But they didn't need to lose their heads for 10 minutes afterwards. We saw how well they could still play with 10 men, and they could well have salvaged it at 1-0. They lost because it became 3-0 in the blink of an eye.

In many ways they're at a similar stage to us. We'd also lose our heads, whereas teams at the top would accept the bad luck, keep it at 1-0 then come back.

Not loads of contact? I'd suggest having a look at the video again. He had his arms around Williams and was pulling him back from the point that the initial shot from the edge of the area came in.

That's a good 5 seconds and at no point did the defender make any attempt to play the ball rather than the man. That he pulled him over, preventing a clean shot from 3yds out is enough to warrant a red card.
