Hound Him and Williams do feel like good signings for this level and give us some depth. It would point to Fraser being out long term

Wouldn’t expect him to come in ahead of Abrefa or Yiadom but he might. Think he’ll play in a solid 3 man mid with wing and savage

4-1-4-1 with him behind Wing and Savage?

Was thinking about this earlier and came to the same conclusion: 4-1-4-1.

.......................Pereira
Abrefa, O'Connor, Williams, Jacob
...................Rinomhota
Lane.......Wing.......Savage..Ehibhatiomhan
.....................Marriott

That midfield's a bit.... lacking flair. Not really going to have anyone beating their man in the middle.

IIRC, Rinomhota was capable of picking up the ball from deep and driving forward when he was here.

South Coast Royal Not as old as I thought he was by now at 28.

Yeah same here I was expecting a tired old 36 year old playing out his career here, but at 28 he's at his peak. Must've been like 11 or so when he played for us!

A bit surprised that he's not wanted by anyone else, if he did well at Cardiff and is now in his prime. Oh well, whatever it is, perhaps he'll find form here, if we can fit him in somewhere.

From Despair To Where? I think he's a good signing. We know what he's capable of and I think it's a signing that allows other players (Wing, Savage) to play in their more natural position.

assuming we have signed him to play in cm...

I'd expect him to play there, especially with Yiadom now back (assuming we've had no new injuries). A ball-winner in central midfield is one of the things we've been lacking.

I wonder if he was holding out for a Championship side, or, as others have said, wanted a higher wage than sides would give him.

I hope it wasn't because of injuries.

Yes he was good at that. But he needed someone to hand it off to after that. He looked like he got a nose bleed any time he went near the oppo box.

Called up by Zimbabwe for AFCON. Presumably means we won't see him at the SCL until the New Year now.

In a group with Egypt, South Africa and Angola. Matches to be played 21st/26th/29th December. Currently 25/1 to win the group & 2/1 outsiders to qualify out of the group so all being well should be available for Burton (H) on NYD.

Luton & Plymouth also have players called up for Zimbabwe - 2 of our next opponents.

Was probably expected and may explain why he hasn't seen more minutes.

Pleased for him, but the sooner this damn competition is moved out of the middle of most European league seasons the better for everyone! If Africa is too hot why not hold it in the summer in Europe, where lots of the players are based anyway!

I'm sure that would go down well with the African fans.

Why the screaming actual oxf*rd do you think Africa should cater to Europe in scheduling it's competitions?

It’s just a suggestion! Why should teams in Europe have to suffer every (other) year in losing players for 4/5 weeks?

Holding AFCON in Europe is one of the most stupid suggestions seen on here, and it's a crowded field.

Maybe Southern African nations beneath the equator could host sometimes, so our summer is their winter and temperatures are bearable. This year it's in Morocco who are hosting a summer world cup in 2030.

Good luck to him. Agree with the idea as to why that's why we've not seen much of him - don't want to get used to playing with him only for him to disappear for a few weeks.

It appears he'll be missing for Luton (H); Plymouth (A); Peterborough (A); and Burton (H) should they get knocked out of the group stage.

There aren't that many that have the infrastructure to host it - only really South Africa (who hosted it most recently in 2013) could do it without major investment.

Kenya; Tanzania; and Uganda are co-hosting in 2027. Of those planning a bid for between 2029 and 2035, only Angola are south of the equator (Ethiopia; Guinea and Mali; Rwanda; and Senegal are the others).

Good question. Perhaps we should ban European teams from signing African players and then we wouldn't have to suffer this for 4/5 weeks every (other) year?

Maybe you could have a word with Infantino who by expanding his Club World Cup forced Morocco, as hosts, to move Afcon from June and July earlier this year to December. The same guy, who as head of FIFA, obliges clubs to release players for only one international tournament per year, thus ruling out all of 2026 as an option to hold Afcon then. Or perhaps you might want to ask why the PL and EFL don't match the winter break in December/January that most other European leagues have. The same time period that this damn competition has been shunted to.
