Confirmed by the club. I'd stay off Twitter. A necessary decision, but not one to celebrate.

Today I have made the decision to terminate the contract of First Team Manager Noel Hunt.

This is a difficult day for everyone at Reading Football Club. As I said recently, football is a performance-based business and while we have seen moments of progress this season, results have not reached the level required. After honest discussions inside the club in recent weeks, I believe this is the right moment to make a change to move us forward.

Noel Hunt is far more than just a former manager of this football club – he is part of the fabric of Reading FC. As a player, he fought for this badge. As a coach in our Academy, he helped shape the next generation of Royals. As First Team Manager, he stepped up in very challenging circumstances and gave everything for the club.

Noel has conducted himself with integrity, hard work and total commitment. He cares deeply about Reading Football Club and he leaves with his head held high.

When I spoke recently about frustration, accountability and sometimes needing to be more ruthless, I was speaking honestly about the standards we must hold ourselves to if we want to grow. That responsibility begins with me. My duty is to make the decisions I believe give this club the best chance of long-term success. This is one of those decisions – not an easy one, but a necessary one.

Noel has been a tremendous servant to Reading Football Club over many years and I firmly believe he will go on to have a successful managerial career. He has all the qualities to do so, and he leaves with the respect of myself, our ownership group and everyone at Reading. He will always be welcome at the Select Car Leasing Stadium – once a Royal, always a Royal.

I also want to thank our supporters. Your passion and loyalty through this period of transition has been remarkable. Change can be difficult, but we will move forward with purpose, clarity and ambition – together.

Thank you, Noel.

Very good statement rather than the usual 6 liner clubs issue. Nothing about the 2 coaches though...they're just as responsible for what goes on on the pitch.

My money is on Matt. Bloomfield ex Wycombe player and manager, he took them to the Championship if I remember correctly. I think he is out of work having left/sacked by Luton Town this month. Couhig and Jacobson must know him well.

Feel very saddened by this; so wanted it to work for Noel but think it’s probably the right decision, or rather that the owners had to take action at this point.

Open training session tomorrow could be a bit awks.

Pretty much where I am with it. Sad that it didn't work out, but it had to happen.

He's got a job in Spain somewhere.

Surely it'll be Bloomfield? Good L1 record, actually gave it a good go at Luton given the league position he inherited (they won 6 of their last 12 last season). And of course a big connection with Couhig and JJ. Quite possibly still lives locally?

I think it'll happen quickly, and I'd be happy enough with it.

Edit: don't even fcuking think of Ainsworth.

Right decision but a shame if he`s left the club completely, back to the U21s would have been a decent option.

A lot I could say about this, obviously.

Do think he was completely ruined by the late recruitment of key players this summer. If we look at the table since we signed Jack Marriott, we'd be ninth - four points off top; four points off the bottom.

I do think we were improving, but the slow start is why he ultimately has gone.

It's a tough results led business with no room for sentimentality , time will tell but probably the right decision

Felt for a while now that it was Nigel Gibbs doing the heavy lifting last season.
With that in mind it seems a shame that McDermott couldn't have been brought in to do something similar.
