I was a bit confused as to why he didn't come back on loan and Brighton chose to let him drop down to play in their youth team when they signed him from us.

He's certainly a top talent and I think he'll play in the Prem eventually. Having the chance to play lots of games at this level will be good for him, as the often chaotic nature of the games will allow him to develop in a different way while also toughening him up.

Yeah, it's not about us.

If I were his club, I would want him getting new experiences with new people in new environments from a loan. Not just putting him back in familiar surroundings with familiar people. That's not the way for growth.

Plus generally, when you take a loan player, it's often with a view to whether you might be interested in making it permanent. There's no chance of that with Vickers.

MOM, Burns, Jacob - it might not be likely, but far more than Vickers.

On top of that, Vickers isn't exactly in a position we've struggled to recruit. He'd be yet another little AM. Like Lane, Kyerewaa, Doyle, Elliott, Camara, Tuma, Okine-Peters etc etc.

It's striker we're struggling with most.

Tbh he’s nearly 21, hasn’t had a sniff at Brighton and currently has 5 career goals in 40 games, all in L1. Doyle scored more than that in 20 games at Crawley last year. Has been subbed off on 60 twice for Barnsley this year as well

Not to say he might not turn out to be a very good player but it doesn’t scream out to me that he’d be the answer to our problems
