Oh dear, don’t referees like good old 1950s challenges on a keeper? The game is going to pot.

There's probably sensible points to be made about VAR, about the referee blowing too soon, about the implications of allowing those sort of challenges on a goalkeeper.

Trawling Twitter for a five year old example of goal line technology going wrong, a different issue altogether, is shit-tier posting.

Did Villa consider gaining one more point across the other 37 games?

Keith Hackett agrees with Villa’s complaint about the appointment of such an inexperienced ref to the fixture.

Cross over with things I hate about modern football thread.

The idea that the problem here is the ref or his 'lack of experience'. He's not a novice, he's refereed 10 PL games this season and hundreds of games over his career across multiple levels.

He's made what appeared to him to be a clear cut decision and only multiple replays and slow mos shows he's wrong. He's blown his whistle a second or so early.

The problem here, as usual, is the implementation of VAR and its terms of reference. VAR is prevented from correcting a simple error, where doing so has no in game consequences other than the correction of the error because its terms of reference say it can't intervene once a ref has stopped the game, despite the fact the incident involves no further action afterwards than the flight of the ball across the goal line.

It's pathetic.

Some ex Slough players doing very well for Southend at the moment. In 10 minutes they’ll be back in the league again.

Typical Reading style PO final defeat for Southend in front of a record crowd for the final of 52115. Oldham had finished 29 points behind Barnet

It’s Oldham’s first “promotion” since winning the 2nd division in 1991!

Yes, lots of ex-pros do that….
Normally for charity/ one-off ‘money makers’ for their formative club/ etc….

Some ‘non descript’ non-league northern team had a Brazilian WC winner sign-up for a game….it was just a publicity stunt.

That’s how Soccer Aid works I guess

Garforth Town. They were owned by a bloke who ran Brazilian soccer schools with Socrates. He offered to play as a publicity stunt and lasted about 10 minutes.

Lee Sharpe played for them and Carreca played in a pre season friendly.

Indeed, thanx

I’d happily play for my old team, but it would bankrupt one of us in insurance costs
