AthleticoSpizz It was a question

The results are the same, hard working people getting short changed by their employer ( in the name of this glorious game). Cause and effect brings those same results.

Chelsea have thrived on the money that supports Putin

Cancel them

Sorry, misread what you had said.

I get the feeling of hatred towards Abramovich, I welcome sanctions against him and a ban on him profiting personally. I just don't like the thought of a 20 year old kid not picking up their wages, not sure it helps anything in the grand scheme of things. I'd like to think they'll be a work around so that the staff can still be paid at least.

Same is true for any sanction against someone or something rich. It always hits someone low down you could consider innocent.

I'm with stranded, you know the owner is dodgy, you accept the consequences if sanctions for that splash on you.

But the fans don't pick the owners of their clubs-don't we just know it as well?.
We have to accept that our clubs are tradeable objects rather than what they were originally, players representing a particular geographical area.

I know Chelsea fans who were happy to support their club before the big money arrived and hark back to those days believing that it was much more fun especially having had such defence-first managers in recent years.
For them the success of the past 10 years or so has been great but not the be all and end all.

Dodgy ownership exists all over the place, even at poor old Everton which wrongly tries to portray itself as the "people's club" when it has splashed out half a billion in the past 3 years using foreign money emanating from the same type of source as Chelsea..

I think we have to accept that football reflects society and the UK has been rife with foreign investment regardless of which "foreign" has been involved be it Russian, Chinese, Far Eastern or whoever, so Chelsea FC might even consider themselves as victims for being the first club called out for its dodgy connections when others are just as culpable on so many levels especially that of human rights records.

We come back to what we want from our football clubs and it is different for different fans.
Some want the glory, however achieved, others just want a club that exists for their local area; some want wins regardless of entertainment, others want what they think of as entertaining football with the occasional success.

There's the court case a couple of years ago where Abramovich proved that he bribed officials to get shares in Sibneft in order to win the case so even he doesnt try to hide that the way he aquire his money is dodgy.

That's the thing though, his wealth is legitimate, just not the way he got it. When he bought Chelsea, the purchase was three or 4 steps removed from the dodgy dealing. Even then, bartering favour could be a cultural thing. I guess those chickens are finally getting comfy on their roost.

I have some sympathy for Chelsea as this has happened for non footballing reasons but I can revel in it in the face of 18 years of hubris.

Eddie Howe asked about the 81 executions in Saudi Arabia. Not really something he should be asked, but the owners.

Lets hope this is the start of a real change in football ownerships now, but I doubt it. Even if Chelsea do go bust.

I sort of supported their position some posts ago - how wrong could I have been ?

It appears their complete lack of class shines through

Why can't Middlesborough sell the away tickets?

I assume they will shortly announce that the home game v Brentford will be behind closed doors as well the home leg of any CL Quarter Final.

Silver Fox Why can't Middlesborough sell the away tickets?

I know that clubs aren't really set up these days to sell thousands of tickets to away fans on the day but the same thought had occurred to me to.

Although don't clubs share ticket sales 50/50 in the cup? Meaning that the government sanctions should really prevent any tickets being sold at all? Unless the government didn't really think this through?

"To maintain sporting integrity"

The lack of irony and self awareness from Chelsea is extraordinary!!!

What about the last 19 Years where tainted money got them all of their success; how does that square with "sporting integrity"?

And after April 2nd, there will be NO away fans allowed into Stamford Bridge; that means EVERY home Chelsea game gives them a massive advantage. How about Chelsea playing all of their home games behind closed doors "to maintain sporting integrity"

If Chelsea have already sold 800 tickets, for Boro to sell the remainder of the away allocation to their own fans would end up being a security and stewarding nightmare.

Best thing to do is for the the away end to have what Chelsea fans had already bought tickets, and the rest empty, with the Government compensating Boro for the lost revenue they would have got for their share of the tickets that didn't get sold due to the sanctions.

Silver Fox I'm pretty sure all the banners are paid for and put up by fans, it's the same everywhere, even at little old us. Don't know if they get special dispensation to pop in early to hang them up?

I'm pretty sure that they are there permanently (ie: they don't get taken down).

By not removing that flag, Chelsea FC are skating on thin ice IMHO, as are their fans whenever they start their pro Putin (sorry, pro Abramovich....) chants.

I can see Chelsea fans being banned unless they stop doing so.

I meant selling tickets to the away end to Chelsea fans who travel up not to Boro fans. Which I guess is easier said than done but would many Boro fans wear a Chelsea scarf just to get into see the match? Although as SFers says there may be an issue with how the ticket sales cash is split. I'm sure Chelsea will quite happily waive their share of the money to maintain sporting integrity.

Someone needs to explain to Tuchel that any other business under this sanction would not be allowed to operate at all, so he should just get on with it
