windermereROYAL Once upon a time . but Steve Hezke was a CB , not leading the forward line !
.
Steve Hezke started off as a CB but then converted into a fairly successful CF.

...+1 my addled ol' knapper recalls that too - v.early 80s - we tended to sling him up front during matches to cause mayhem and generally it worked. Sometimes so effectively indeed, that he may even have started a couple of games in that role
that Aldersh!t game that got a mention above somewhere rings a loud bell - probably during an injury crisis amongst the forwards?
- I also vaguely remember him scaring the the
bejabers out of Lincoln City (Dec 81 W 3-2) - who had a good couple of seasons in the old Div 3 around then. Injury crisis ringing a tad louder: attended the away game at 'Sinny Bank' with our dear 'Ronnie F' in goal - so Alan Judge may have been crocked too (?)- we took to the field with walking wounded and 5 CBs in the line up and under almost constant siege from a rampant City - eventually only lost 1-2.
The 'Imps' may even have lead the league at some point in those spells but never quite made it up. Had Glen Cockerill, who used a sort of fore-runner version of that Andy (Andrew) Johnson 'gallop -into-the-oppos-penalty-area-and-fall-over-dramatically' tactic - that used to fool referees every week!
