RG30 What a day. Feel very smug I was in attendance. Great atmosphere and rarely did it look England were in any great danger of getting beat.

Must've been oxf*rd awesome.

Deserved win for England in the end. They are also getting the little bit of luck you need to win a tournament.

Phillips a very lucky boy.

NathStPaul on the England - the future thread during the match Two central midfielders on yellow cards, both need to be brought off at half time. Reckless and immature.

Said yourself, "reckless". On another day the ref sees a challenge like that and Phillips is off.

Like I say, deserved win for England.

It would have been an exceptionally harsh red card. His foot went over the ball, but he wasn't using too much force and most of the pressure landed on the ankle/foot area. It would have been another injustice to fume over for a decade or so until we played them again.

did you boo the German national anthem? Or the knee?

As it happens I was sat in the German section in the lower tier corner. And no I didn't boo either the knee or anthem.

Yep, a good example this of a still photo making an incident look worse than it was. Phillips didn't hit him that hard, and his foot rolled over the ball. I've been really impressed with the refereeing in this tournament. Sensible, calm, measured. I'm sure Phillips would have got a VAR red for that in the PL.

Interesting point made in the Guardian that with both Rice and Phillips on yellows, we can expect Henderson to start against Ukraine, which might not be the worst thing anyway. Foden also on a yellow, but I hope he makes an appearance.

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised to see him come in for one of them - would make total sense.

Wouldn't be against Foden starting and risking him getting a second yellow - got plenty more options in that area.

Which one do you rest?

Phillips more combative and energetic?

NathStPaul Well we should given the sides in our half of the draw, not sure why saying we are heavy favourites to make the final is an issue?

Not an issue, although I'd disagree with 'heavy' - just that tournament football is unpredictable, and tough. We've made one major tournament final in our entire history, and suddenly we 'should' be making a second. One game at a time. If Ukraine beat us I'm sure they'll have earned it.

In the World Cup England only had to beat Colombia, Sweden and Croatia to get to the final. No one at the time was thinking well actually, Croatia are a good team. Croatia scored 1 goal in the group stage, a group that included Australia and Peru.

And still, England didnt make it.

I see Denmark as offering just as much risk to England as Croatia did then.

See Grealish in for Saka and Henderson in for Rice. Rest stays the same imo.

Welsh player got sent off for the exact same thing. I was surprised it didnt go to VAR.

Do Denmark have a midfield that run the show for some of the best clubs in the world though?

Denmark are a real threat for sure, everyone left is. But do they have players on the level of Modric, Perisic and Raketic of 3 years ago?

There's been six or seven to one degree or other. Only the Wales one saw a red iirc. Sterling's wasn't even given as a foul.

West Hampsted where my brother lives. Short hop on the Jubilee Line to Wembley, less busier than the Met Line.
