But they've already lost King in January. If you add selling Brooks, Cook and Stanislas into the mix, are they that good any more? Obviously balancing books is important; just look at the likes of Bolton, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday. But if they stay down this season, their squad will become an above average team for this level, and could slide further to mediocrity. This season is their chance; they've already blown auto, but they're in the mix for the playoffs and could beat anyone on their day. That 45 minutes earlier in the season is by far the best anybody has played against us this season.

Stanislaus is 31 and out of contract in the summer. Not a huge amount of transfer value there other than shifting his alleged £35,000 a week off the wage bill.

OK. Actual rivals for play offs, remaining fixtures. I have excluded; Norwich, Swansea, Brentford and Watford as I think they’re already home and hosed for a top 4 finish so that leaves Reading, Barnsley, Bournemouth, Cardiff and Middlesbrough to fight it out for the last 2 spots. Therefore Reading effectively need to finish in the top 2 of this mini league.

Have to think Cardiff and Boro leaves it very much 3 teams for 5th and 6th

If we end up below either, doubt we’ll be finishing as high as 7th now

It’s out of our hands now so we just have to try and pick up as many points as possible and hope for the best.

It’s very much in our own hands still. Win all of our remaining games( I know it won’t happen) and we will be top six.

It is still in our hands, if we win every game from now to the end of the season, regardless of what everyone else does we will finish 6th at a minimum.

When did our fans become such wet blankets?

Season is over when we're mathematically incapable of going up or down. So probably not for another month.

I meant to say in terms of if *everyone picked up maximum points, including us, the then we wouldn’t finish in top 6.

Ya get me?

But no doom and gloom here, excited for the run in, I just want to see us really rise to the challenge and start putting in some good performances, something that we’ve lacked recently!

Well that's impossible.

Be interested to see how both us and Barnsley can pick up max.
