Hound Couple of great bits of defending from Gibson on the highlights

Thought Gibson was excellent. A no nonsense left back, positionally very astute. Lacked attacking prowess but I can accept that so long as he’s not a liability defensively.

CountryRoyal Get out of jail card that one. Not really deserved but I’ll take it!!! :D

Nonsense, QPR didn`t offer anything , they hit the post ours went in. even game.

Yea exactly... an even game... the win wasn’t really deserved.

Both teams really even and it came down to one chance each...there's was a shot across goal which hit the inside of the post and rebounded to safety. Our chance was also a shot across goal, however, ours nestled into the side of the net for the winner!!
A game of really small margins.

And theirs only came from our F up. Feel like we had the better of the game tbh, although a draw would be fair.

A draw is what we all would’ve taken on todays line-up.

It’s a two/three point bonus

Just as a footnote. Just how sh*t boring was qprs kit. Wearing that shirt would be a cure for insomnia.
No imagination gone into that.

Too much white.

White shoulders, white shorts, white socks. Might as well be Leeds.

Reading used to have white shorts, white socks and (of course) a lot of white on the shirt...even in the seventies.

Agree tho’...not QPRs best kit

I get your point and agree to an extent but I struggle to label that performance excellent because he’s only playing half of the position. If we thought Holmes looked a bit overly defensive Gibson made him look like a winger by comparison.

No criticism of the player, he clearly did what he was asked to do and he did that well, but if we’re going to play a style that utilises wing-backs, a defence only approach isn’t asking enough from him.

I get that it was an emergency situation and he was relatively untested but I don’t think he was given enough of a ceiling to tick the excellent box.

I’d go more for ‘did what was asked if him’

Tbf both Gibson and Ejaria dealt with Kakai, who has given other teams all sorts of problems. I’d go for quality performance.

I prefer ours to theirs on the whole...but do like the fact their hoops go all the way round like hoops are meant to do

I think most of us would have taken a draw both before and during with the line-up that we put out.

Three things:-
Last week I went on again about defenders not closing down attackers in this division as many are capable of scoring from there so our goal and their near miss were scored that way and watching bits on Sky whilst watching our game on i-follow there were a number of goals scored from longish range.

So Reading and others (although I don't care about others) should work and work IMHO during games to block these chances (see also earlier goals scored against us where Raphael has been rightly or wrongly blamed).
We used to be poor at blocking crosses from wide (remember the Welsh bloke we had at right-back for far too long? ) but that is no longer so much of an issue.

Secondly I said that I would like to see Laurent bring the ball forward from the back rather than staying so deep -I was delighted when he did that more than once yesterday including one brilliant run and there is definitely more to his game than just filling in between the two centre-backs.

Thirdly Baldock.
I liked him at Brighton, especially when he scored a cracking volley at Bournemouth in the season that they went up.
Unfortunately 4 years or so later all that he seems to offer now is running around a lot and so often nearly getting a touch.
At the moment I suppose he just has to play so , as others have said, the other players must appreciate what he can and can't do and try to play to his strengths because we have a number of games before Meite and Joao are back (and Puscas(?)) and we have 5 important games to play before any new signings can play.

With all the top sides winning both home and away yesterday that late great winner kept us in the race but we have to get points out of games coming up and we won't be able to rely on wonder goals and otherwise make no chances in games like yesterday.
It won't work just waiting for our strikers to come back as with games against Norwich, Brentford and Swansea coming up points are vital otherwise we could easily drop well away from the top 6.

Having said all that, to be in contention this season has been unexpected and uplifting, especially with the drabness of restricted life away from football, but to keep it all going we really need back-up players to come to the party and Baldock is an important factor.

One note on Gibson, I noticed he drifted centrally a lot more often then one would hope. Richards hugs the line unless he goes on one of his excellent dribbles.

Obviously to too soon to say if that is a problem or even his style but it should be noted as something to watch. Could get himself badly caught out.

Possibly forgetting he's having to play at Left Back rather than as a Central Defender - reverting to type?

Yep agree with all of this although it now looks like Joao might be available for Boxing Day which would be a big boost.

Except Holmes made an almighty cock up late 2nd half.

Dellor doesn't bother to listen when he does his interviews with VP. Sadly VP said that he thought Joao would be out 'until the end of this year'.
