Top scorers

by Snowflake Royal » 01 Feb 2020 14:21

One for strap or cube probably, but what's our lowest ever top scorer?

I think Asaba was top on 11 one year and bar Kermie we haven't had many prolific in recent years.

Currently we have:
Meite 5 + 3 = 8
Puscas 6 + 1 = 7
Joao 5 + 0 + 1(SW) = 6
Swift 5 + 0 = 5

None of the strikers are playing week in week out.. it seems pretty unlikely someone won't hit at least 11, but it's pretty clear to see the problem right now is a lack of goals rather than anything else.

We really need to find a working combination and stick with it. Here's to Yak and Sam hitting a rich vein of form.

Bod and Barrow got 10 each in all competitions in 17/18.

Barrow's were all in the league, Bod got 7 in the league and 3 in the cup

Eesh. Let's hope we don't see those numbers at the end of the season for a while.

......and if it wasn’t for Alf in 2012/13....it would’ve been Pog on 8 too

It wasn’t, not that it did us any good

Christ that's bad. No wonder I forgot it. Obviously for half a season that's respectable for Murray.

Pog really was a massive waste of space.

I liked Pog. Not so keen on the £60,000 a week we were paying him, mind.

The last 7 years have been a complete shower of shit really.

Having said that, it doesn't make me nostalgic for the days of Mark Whitlock and Ian Porterfield. Now they really took being fcuking dreadful to a whole new level.

If Pog had been a free transfer from a League One club then we'd probably view him very differently. As it is, his spell is marred both by his failure to live up to his reputation, and the huge amounts of money we paid him.

Based on his achievements at Zenit, would have expected him to be a real top-end Championship striker after our relegation but he ended up just being a mid-table also-ran.

Pog cost approximately £335k per goal.

Didn’t he get 12ish goals in that relegation season?

Edit; he got 8 in 33. Not great but then we were terribly shit.

Lower West What's the goals to minutes played ratios?

Meite had played marginally more league minutes than Puscas, I think Joao a few hundred less.

Around 1400 vs 1100 ish?

It's tough because who scored only includes league goals and minutes whereas soccerbase doesn't show any minutes.

Use trnsfrmkt

Trnsfrmkt up Up to 31 January

26 Appearances - 1,650 Minutes - 07 Goals = 1 Goal every 236 Minutes - Puscas
27 Appearances - 1,811 Minutes - 08 Goals = 1 Goal every 226 Minutes - Meite (Meite has an assist)

In simple stats not much to pick between them but Puscas has had a 2-goal game and a hat-trick game
and, as yet, no assists. Plus you could argue that Meite stretches sides more with his raw pace when
played wide, and (probably) his power wears down defenders more.

But after the most-recent game...

Including Cardiff 3-3 (Guessed 3 minutes injury time) Not yet on trnsfrmkt

27 Appearances - 1,695 Minutes - 07 Goals = 1 Goal every 242 Minutes - Puscas
28 Appearances - 1,933 Minutes - 09 Goals = 1 Goal every 214 Minutes - Meite

For me, these two are both capable of good stuff, and though I like Baldock I would have said:
"He scores rarely and doesn't get loads of assists either (well I did write that)

but his stats?

17 Appearances - 880 Minutes - 04 Goals = 1 Goal every 220 Minutes - Baldock (plus an assist)

Put assists with goals and

One Goal-or-Assist every 193.3 Minutes Meite
One Goal-or-Assist every 176.0 Minutes Baldock

So, arguably the ranking is

1 Baldock
2 Meite
3 Puscas

Lucas Joao is

19 Appearances 6 Goals, 4 Assists in 1161 Minutes

That's a goal every 193 Minutes
A Goal or assist every 116 minutes

So

1 Joao
2 Baldock
3 Meite
4 Puscas

Joao is inflated a little by his brief sub appearance for Wednesday (12 minutes) where he scored.

His READING Stats are therefore 18 Appearances 5 Goals, 4 Assists in 1149 Minutes

a goal every 230 minutes, a goal/assist every 128 minutes

So top dog for goals-assists (and easily best for leading the line)

Thanks for the comprehensive reply.

Seems as it's more a lack of partnerships than an outright inability to score. Will take time for the players to build an understanding, and in Puscas case settle in England.

Me too.

I remember being at Loftus Road when I was 8 years old and watched him get sent off. I remember it because my Dad lost it with the guy behind me when he started swearing profusely.

Simpler times.

Yeah true we were shite so unfair on him. He couldn't score with his head IIRC despite being a big chap.

Haha yeah.

I used to swear at matches tbh (never in front of kids) but then grew up and realised kids exist likely somewhere in your stand even if you can't see them

I remember Asaba because to me I think at the time he was a big signing, like £400k or something. Not quite as high as Caskey btu still up there. And he was a spitting image of one of my best mates.

Good times. How I miss the Southbank and those days of being little Reading :(
