If we're talking about good players who were not give a chance/able to show their best under a certain manager then Phil Parkinson during the reign of Tommy Burns is worth a mention, We almost lost our captain to Wycombe Wanderers IIRC as the manager didn't rate him. Needless to say he was a key figure post Burns.
