The Next Nine

by Brum Royal » 06 Feb 2017 11:29

The next nine out of our last 16 games will be key in determining how the end of the season will play out as we play nearly all of the sides around us, before what looks on paper to be a more "gentle" run in for the last 7 games.

The next nine games:
Barnsley (9th) home
Brentford (13th) home
Huddersfield (4th) away
Brighton (2nd) away
Wolves (18th) home
Newcastle (1st) home
Preston (11th) away
Sheff Wed (6th) away
Leeds (5th) home

So that's 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th in the next 9 fixtures (with Norwich in 7th two games later). Get a decent points haul from that (15 points or more) and we'll be most of the way to securing a higher play off spot, and maybe still have a sniff of the automatic places. Take less than 10 points from that run of 9 games and I think we'll be scrapping for the lower play off spots, and probably fighting to get back in again.

Think the 2 next home games are vital. Get 6 points from them and we'll be going into the Huddersfield game with a bit of momentum.

1 win out of those 2 games against Huddersfield/Brighton and a point against Newcastle would be a pretty good return.

If it is 'just' the play offs we're after then we should be looking at something 12 -15 points - if it's auto then 18-24 points perhaps?

If we are still in the play off spots with 4 games to go then we play 3 of the bottom 4 (and Forest at home as the other game) in those last games. Hopefully Forest Rotherham and Burton will have nothing to play for by then. Expecting a Wigan resurgence post signings....

AS other have said I think we actually need 6 points from next two games. It would give us a cushion going into a run of playing the current 1st-7th in 9 games......

Obviously I think we need to be aiming to win all our home games and we've been very good at that so far, 3rd best home record in the league, so yes, even target wins against Newcastle and Leeds, especially given their status as 6 pointers. Away from home, we have a very tough run of fixtures, Preston on paper being the easiest of the away fixtures but their poor home record seems to be more down to their poor start as they have picked up.

Yeah, this. Win those two and we can "afford" to drop points against Huddersfield/Brighton and not really be in danger.

Barnsley are only 2nd to Newcastle in the form guide for the last 8 away games with 5 wins. so that if far from a walk in the park.

Their away wins haven't been overly impressive though, they tend to fall short against teams in the higher places.

And they've lost 3 of their better players during Jan

Would take a win from all home games and then anything else is a bonus/5 wins from 9.

Reading's average points per game is 1.86/1.87, so if you base it on that, 17 points it is.

Brum Royal The next nine out of our last 16 games will be key in determining how the end of the season will play out as we play nearly all of the sides around us, before what looks on paper to be a more "gentle" run in for the last 7 games.

So....
The next nine games:
Barnsley (9th) home W 2-1
Brentford (13th) home W 2-0
Huddersfield (4th) away D 1-1
Brighton (2nd) away W 1-0
Wolves (18th) home W 2-1
Newcastle (1st) home L 0-2
Preston (11th) away W 1-0
Sheff Wed (6th) away D 1-1
Leeds (5th) home W 1-0

20 points from 9 games is my prediction losing once, I feel that Brighton will stumble and they are not unbeatable, I do though feel Newcastle will only get better and coast till the end. My other outlandish prediction is that we will be 2nd by this point but only by 1 point.

The beauty is thinking about the NSC meltdown if that were to happen.

I am actually confident of a great return here of 20 points with a few great wins and a couple of frustrating results

Barnsley (9th) home (W 1-0)
Brentford (13th) home (W 2-0)
Huddersfield (4th) away (L 3-2)
Brighton (2nd) away (W 1-2)
Wolves (18th) home (D 1-1)
Newcastle (1st) home (W 3-2)
Preston (11th) away (W 1-3)
Sheff Wed (6th) away (W 1-3)
Leeds (5th) home (D 0-0)

The last time Maneki predicted (I think) a run of 8 games earlier, he/she got 7 of them correct! So - 17 points it is then - no doubt!!
