But there was no contact so what do you give it for?

Platypuss Not that far outside the box, and the attacker could have easily got a shot away before the cover came across.

If CLoL had been making a proper attempt at tackle he'd have probably got just a yellow, mind.

Platypuss Playing in a dangerous manner
Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the
ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes
preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury.

Don't think you could describe Terry's challenge as dangerous at all.

stealthpapes Isn't it simply a red card as the referee thought that the attacking player had a clear goal scoring opportunity and that Terry commited a foul under the following:
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force ... trips or attempts to trip.
Not entirely where the 'no contact' thing has come from. Wishful thinking?

No surprise there. I think we have a 99.9% failure r8 with appeals.
There was no contact so I'm not sure why they didn't rescind the decision. Remember Loic Remy at Stoke last season. He had to hurdle the keeper to avoid getting clattered, tried to stay on his feet but lost his balance. Prevented a definite goal. Ref never gave it and Howard Webb backed him up saying "There was no contact so what do you give a penalty for?"
So in this instance, "there was no contact so what do you give the free kick and red card for?"...
