Apparently we're better than Real Madrid and most other teams in the world.

I know it's the daily fail but you don't have to misquote their already poorly worded figure. They say we keep the ball better than Real purely because we have more possession, no doubt Real do a lot more with the ball than we do.

The quality of the opposition has to be taken into account as well, for example Real play the likes of Barcelona whereas we have tougher games against self-called big teams like Brighton.

No recognition of which half of the pitch we keep possession in-I would guess we feature very badly in stats for the opposition half.

Good straight talking by Stam though-I do like the way the Dutch tend to speak rationally and unemotionally and cut out the hype that is so prevalent in our society both in the media generally and by the managers when interviewed totally.

Adkins never said anything. After a game he'd give you the match highlights whatever he was asked and then you'd get a load of PR spin saying precisely nothing of any note.

You could play Adkins bingo. The top one was "the attitude and application of the players was first class", after a home defeat.

My favourite was "Good consistency of selection". That isn't hard to achieve for a football manager!

He's pretty good, but the basic rule of fan perception is:

Performing well = Manager says really insightful things
Performing badly = Manager just spouts PR spin and cliches

The words "Daily Mail" should have killed this thread .

Daily Mail = The paper for those that think they are reading something superior to The Star or Sunday Sport but are simply fooled by a lack of Red Ink.
