BBC News Ex-Premier League footballer Sam Sodje in court over charity fraud
12 December 2016
From the section Berkshire

Former Premier League footballer Sam Sodje has appeared in court alongside three brothers accused of charity fraud.
The ex-Reading defender denied fraudulent trading charges relating to the Sodje Sports Foundation - a charity to raise money for Nigerian sport.
Mr Sodje, 37, is jointly charged with elder brothers Efe, 44, Bright, 50 and Stephen, 42.
Appearing at the Old Bailey earlier, all four denied the offence.
The charge relates to offences which allegedly took place between 2008 and 2014.
Sam, from Kent, Efe and Bright, of Greater Manchester, and Stephen, from Bexley, are due to stand trial in July.
They were all released on bail.
Some alleged offences took place during his Reading days 2006-2009

Not heard anyone make any public allegations about Murty but for some reason I am reminded of the time I read in the Secret Footballer that one successful Championship team he was at had a captain who didn't look after the players like a captain should and when it was the captains turn to pick the annual charities that all player fines and proceeds from player memorabilia auctions etc go to he was surprised when a winning bidder called him to tell him he'd been asked to make the cheque out to the players own testimonial charity. A charity is a charity and all that so probably nothing illegal but the secret footballer was fuming and said as much.

Of course, nobody knows who the secret footballer is so we can't possibly guess who that captain might have been and get his side of the story.

And some have guessed that the secret footballer is in fact a composite character made up from several professionals stories....

Wonder if the truth with ever be made known one day when all mentioned have long finished their careers.

It's worth remembering that he also admitted to being deliberately sent off in return for a big pile of cash. I always liked the fact that he chose the lesser spotted cock-punch as his route to a red card.

Plus I'm still convinced that his red card for us was also for cash as it was just so ludicrous. I know he was crap, but still.
