I wonder how many kids playing football have been subjected to abuse that may have been avoided if Chelsea had used the story as a way of raising awareness instead of trying to permanently sweep it under the carpet.

The regime at the time this payment was allegedly made (three years ago) is essentially the same regime as now.
It would certainly be unusual for someone to make up such an allegation as part of this wider child abuse investigation, but I guess it's fair you wait for 'all the facts' before having an opinion.

This is the Chelsea related thread though, so most users would visit these pages to see any discussion. And also agreed on the 'let's wait and see the facts / authorities / evidence'. i know that once the Hillsborough verdict was in that we all fully accepted that Liverpool fans weren't to blame.
