Goalkeepers Question

by stealthpapes » 24 Aug 2016 17:38

Odd question, what was the season where we used 7 or 8 goalkeepers? That probably includes Jimmy Quinn going in nets for the bantz

Its late 90s, but my memory is fading like the summer.

And who were the keepers that season?

Was it Leighton, Wright, Mautone, Bibbo, Sheppard, Hammond..... To name some... Who else?

Maybe not Leighton. He may have come under McGhee.

Did Adie Williams and Quinny both go in between the sticks as well?

Cheers, will get wiki'ing

FWIW
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996%E2%8 ... .C._season

says

Sal Bibbo
Nick Hammond
Tommy Wright (on loan from Nottingham Forest)
Steve Mautone
Borislav Mikhailov

is from 1996/7 against Bolton

I've got a cupgame (Leeds?) where we had a keeper called in at very short notice. Eric Nixon?

1995-96 would have been

Sheppard
Mihailov
Hammond
Woods (loan, 5 games - he was in the net for that 6-1 game against Palace)
Nixon (loan, jan to feb, 1 game?)
Sutton (loan, jan to may, 2 games)

Pretty sure Nixon was the 2-1 defeat at Elland Rd was 96/97 because we played them in the League Cup 2 seasons running and beat them with Bullivant in charge.

This is correct. While he was signed on a month's loan, it was understood by all parties to be be only for the one game (2-1 defeat at Leeds in the League Cup). He turned up, played, then when back to Tranmere. Was actually a reasonably highly rated keeper at the time I recall, but don't believe anyone was too impressed in his very short tenure.

Actually, the video of the game that papes posted shows that my memory is failing me, it's dated January 1996 so was the season before. I assumed it was the following season because normally the semi finals are played in January.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995-96_R ... .C._season says otherwise, and that's definitely the Nixon game

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997-98_R ... League_Cup for the 3-2 win for Bullivant
