Reading's (current) longest serving player?

by No Fixed Abode » 18 May 2016 12:52

Now John Terry has signed a new one year deal with Chelsea taking his total to 22 years at the club. Who is Reading's longest serving current player?

If it's not too tenuous due to his imminent departure, I would suggest Hector, as he's the oldest of the remaining academy graduates I think.

Jordan Obita. Joined the club at the age of 8 in 2001, made his senior debut in August 2010 and has made a further 118 appearances in all competitions since.

Jake Cooper has put in a decent stint as well. I think he also joined us aged 8.

Excluding time spent as a youth player - who is our longest serving player, from when they signed a professional contact with the club?

If you lay him down, Jake Cooper at 6ft 4.

(There's no way he and Hector are the same height!?)

A few months ago the answer to the original question would have been Jake Taylor who joined in 1999.

It's Obita. His first pro deal was in 2010, so 6 years service.

Worth mentioning that until recently it was HRK, who was a pro with us for 9 years.

I know the OP is counting years as a youth player as he said Terry has been at Chelsea 22 years but not counting that, I was going off this post

So Obita is our longer serving player as a pro (also if you include youth obviously) but as a pro it was HRK until recently.

Don't know what your on about there anyway, I never said HRK wasn't a pro. And he's been released m8, keep up.

Is Obita also the longest serving since initial first team appearance?

Edit: no, just checked, it appears to be Gunter by this criteria. Obita's first appearance was the 6-0 slaughtering at the hands of Peterborough.

Have to tell you that you're wrong there and it is Obita.

His first appearance came in August 2010 in the 1-0 win over Torquay in the League Cup 1st round.

He also appeared once the following season in August 2011, again in the League Cup 1st round, his first start for the club in a 2-1 defeat to Charlton.

After some loan spells he didn't appear for us again until two years later in August 2013, again in the League Cup, which was the game that you mentioned.
