Speculation - Ravel Morrison

by Unbelievable Jeff » 08 Feb 2015 13:08

Been released by West Ham, will more than likely go to a bigger club but has been spotted in this area on multiple occasion so obviously has some sort of connections with Reading.

Off the field conduct is obviously an issue but has great ability... Would he be worth the risk should he want to come here?

And as he was released after the transfer window has closed he can't play for anyone else this season.

He'll probably end up making a few more appearances playing down at Goals in Woodley now then.

Incorrect.

He was release on th 8th feb so my comment is correct, and he has also played in two countries this season for two clubs and so can't play for anyone else - double whammy for him. He won't care though, a few months off before joining Lazio.....

4 months with nothing to do. Are you sure Morrison can stay out of custody for that long given the circumstances?

There are plenty of other players who were released after the window closed who have signed for other clubs - just look at the BBC or Sky transfer pages. Such as:

Oxford have completed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown on a deal until the end of the season.

He left Crawley in November and was available as a free agent, meaning the U's did not have to complete his signing during the transfer window.

The two clubs thing is a different kettle of fish.

I'm pretty sure that if you are released between transfer windows, you can't play for another club until the start of the next transfer window.

Well the Football Manager rulings, which I guess are pretty accurate, is that if a club doesn't fulfil their 25 man squad registration so for example only registers 23 players and then signs a free agent after the transfer window is shut then they can register them so they can play in the current season.

However if a squads registration has all 25 slots filled then a free transfer signed after the window is shut will not be able to play until he can be registered by replacing a current member of the 25 man squad which would be in the next window.

But that is only true for players released before the end of the transfer window. If the player becomes a free agent after the close of the transfer window, to all intents and purposes, the club he leaves effectively still controls his registration until the next transfer window.

The Jamie Ashdown example given states that he was released form his contract in November. He was unable to sign for a new club until the window opened but because he was then a free agent in the window there as no requirement for him sign before the wndow closed.
