Terminal Boardom Word at Stag Meadow was that the attendance was well short of that which has been released. The general concensus being that there were at least a hundred fewer. As for the game, Windsor should have had it wrapped up at half time. Too many gilt edged chances went begging and had we gone in 4-0 up, no-one could have complained. Thankfully, two second half goals sealed the points which is the key thing. Too many times the ball was played without any zip. Build up play was way too pedestrian and we started with our 4th choice striker (Dan Molloy) while George Gould froze on the bench. There was a distinct lack of hunger shown by Windsor which was extremely disappointing as Guildford were there for the taking.

My first ever visit to Stag Meadow, I enjoyed the game and the standard of play was better than the step 5 equivalent I have seen in the Hellenic League. I enjoyed Windsor's passing football, they were denied by the woodwork on 2 or 3 ocassions and some less than clinical finishing. I liked the tigerish number 6 in the middle of the park, the wispy Asian lad wearing 10 who broke forward from midfield with the ball time and time again and the Glen Little-esque number 7 who got a little frustrated as the game wore on and his intelligent passing and movement didn't always deliver the end product he wanted. I watched Conference South football at Maidenhead the previous day and the difference as far as I can see is in the physicality in the higher grade, the Maidenhead games I have seen become a very physical battle.

...sadly weather has beaten tonight's big derby game in the Hellenic Prem: BInfield v Bracknell - match off Frozen Pitch - is usually quite a large turn out for this one too.

...while I'm on here I may as well post up NYD Fixtures - just STEP1-4 in action on Thursday (hoping lurgy may finally have subsided enough for me to actually get out to one - youngest may well attend too so it'll be somewhere with dodgy burgers  - quite like the idea of Diddy v Nor Lye) :

If anyone's thinking of spending their free afternoon at York Road on New Year's Day you can get discounted entry with a Reading season ticket:
http://www.hyufc.com/club_info/admission.html

Usual prices are a bit higher as tenants Hayes are the home team in a reverse of the Boxing Day fixture against Landlords Maidenhead United

Rother - was that your article in the programme m8?

Nope. That was mine but only if you enjoyed it

That's the first time I have heard Dan Hicks be described as Glen Littlesque. He is a centre back and it showed! Omar Riaz wore the 10 and he is a tidy little player who rarely wastes possession. The tigerish number 6 being aaron Minhas who has missed a fair chunk of the season through injury.

I agree totally that the key difference as you go up the leagues is the level of physicality. I would also add that the pace of the game gets quicker the higher you go. And that was also me on the PA as well!

Sadly I missed this game due to family wedding in Lincoln.

Good to see you enjoyed the game Floyd... That's your most upbeat post of 2014. :D

Nice pitch eh?

Ha, certainly has the height to play there I guess so that figures! Thought he looked comfortable on the ball and was always trying a clever through ball or reverse pass.

Enjoyed the article and your music choice was generally sound.....Michael Buble though

Yes Rother, good pitch and an impressive set up all round. Hope you get back up to a higher level, will be looking out for your results.

The buble one was not my choice. It was a request and the first time that I have been able to get something sorted on that score.

So santa hasn't brought the union jack kit to Windsor then?

Not a chance of over 400 people in the ground i'd say closer to 200 than 400+ !!

A real shame the momentum and good will has been squandered. Hard to get back.

...took youngest to this one - his first visit to York Rd - not sure why its taken me so long to get him there - and he was quite impressed - especially with the Magpie-Burger.
Match not the thriller his big brother witnessed on his first trip here many more years ago [probably over 10!] - that was a 3-3 v StAlebuns and both Magpies CBs were carted off to Wexham Pk in an ambulance with concussion after 5' !
York Rd surface pretty chewed up and boggy - queues to get in but only cos the 'lodgers' were running the turnstiles and hadn't organised themselves to open up the Bell St entrance. Points duly shared.

Staines Town 0-3 Basingstoke Town 'stoke rise impressively up to 3rd - albeit easy win (quick double over them in Hols) vs bottom club. 'Dragons' have games in hand too but Boreham Wd have a 10 point lead. 'Brommers' wobbling in 2nd though.......

Sutton United 1-1 Wealdstone
CONF North
Brackley Town 1-0 Gloucester City
Oxford City 3-1 Leamington

SOUTHP
Burnham 0-2 Chesham United
Slough Town 1-2 Hungerford Town - 'Crusaders' tucked in just outside the Play-Off spots - Poole and Weymouth have plenty of games in hand on everyone else up there - current leaders 'Steelmen' from Corby - with Truro and Redditch in 4th/5th.
Rebels and Generals stuck in mid-table - Burnham struggling badly amidst the pack of five down at the foot. Bottom club Banbury picked up some valuable points over the festive period - including a shock huge win 5-1 at Cirencester Town on Boxing Day.

SOUTH1C
Aylesbury United 3-4 Aylesbury
Chalfont St Peter 1-0 Leighton Town
Egham Town 4-0 AFC Hayes
Hanwell Town 1-0 Potters Bar Town

14:00 Farleigh Rovers v Cobham - not heard if away sides' suspension has been lifted or extended ... or worse! Ironic that the home side and runaway league leaders are probably dropping down to County Level at the end of the season: together with any other clubs without lights in this section (WP, Sheerwater for example) Odd that the clubs that definitely DO have all the necessary facilities to stay up in Div One, appear to be those with most worries on and off the pitch - Cobham, Fizzers, Eversley & Alton
Staines Lammas v Eversley & California
14:00 Worcester Park v Sheerwater

HELLP

... Henley haven't had (sadly) enough fans to muster a rivalry with anyone at all for quite some considerable time. Their home crowds' average hovers around the 30 mark. Shame really - as the club are run by some really nice fellahs from gateman to barman - though they're not getting any younger; they are full of enthusiasm for the task - which is invariably thankless and yields little or no support from the local community. :(
There are often big followings for the Sumas though wherever they've played - their rivalry would naturally have been with Bracknell and Binfield of late - though I spose this season their closest adversaries would be 'Finch'; who've also started to get a more respectable following - probably 'cos nearby Sandhurst are such 'dump' currently and Eversley, just down the road, haven't exactly drawn in the locals either - although enforced demotion cannot have helped???

Elsewhere tonight I saw the 'Freds' (Wantage Town) get a much needed and hard fought win 1-0 over Cinderford.
Marlow shared four goals with Barton Rovers. In the Hellenic Premier perhaps Flackwell are finally showing signs of strain - they have a vast number of fixtures to catch up - tonight they were held 3-3 @ Wilkes Park by lowly Milton Utd.

RTFC's Aldersh!t Cup tie @ Scours was postponed but not due to the weather - the visitors Frimley Green couldn't raise a side!
