He does look a bit stocky for a teenager much like Rooney always did. Not sure that's an ideal body type for a fullback but doesn't mean he's not fit.

TBM
Big Foot England squad looks bang average at best

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Everton)

Midfielders: Jack Colback (Newcastle United), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Forwards: Rickie Lambert (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)

He's called up Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph and Newcastle's Jack Colback for the first time.

A fair number of injuries to hamper the start of a new dawn and the squad does look a little too average at the moment. It'll still be interesting to see how much Hodgson starts to change things around (especially at the back) now the World Cup is out of the way and he has to juggle the blooding of new talent with making sure we qualify for the Euro's.

I'd rather see Dyer in there than 'Townsend over the bar' any day of the week.

Just tell the players not to leave their manbags lying around and Dyer would be a great addition.

Arsenal now have 6 young English players in their squad* (Gibbs, Chambers, Ox, Wilshere, Walcott, Welbeck) with Liverpool also having 5, it could well be a good thing for English football....

*haha that'll please Spacey

Some say he was inspired by Blakey robbing him of the ball against Southampton in 2006.

Big Foot Which would give a starting XI of what...?

Hart

Baines
Jagielka
Cahill
Stones

Ox
Wilshere
Henderson
Sterling

Sturridge
Rooney

Almost, just Jones in for Jagielka. It'll be interesting to see quite how they line up and how the younger players react to the challenge of being more central figures now that some of the old guard have stepped aside.

Think Sterling will play as a central attacking player tonight.

He can play all across the back four and as a number 10.

Hopefully Stones can go some way tonight to settling the debate as to whether Jones is an international class player.

Possibly. Can't help but think that we all need a re-calibration on what counts as an international class for England.

Jones is still only 22 and hasn't played half as many games at centre back as he should've by now because United have played on his versatility. I still think he has it in him to be a good player for England, but he needs a good season or two in his position to kick on.

Similar could be said for Chambers and Stones. Both are very young for defenders and are being used at right back and centre back whilst being blooded by their respective clubs. Hopefully they get enough games to learn their trade before being written off.

It'll also be interesting to see how Micah Richards gets on in Italy. He might've burnt his bridges with Hodgson but I still think he's another who has the ability to be a useful player for England.
