He's called up Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph and Newcastle's Jack Colback for the first time.

A fair number of injuries to hamper the start of a new dawn and the squad does look a little too average at the moment. It'll still be interesting to see how much Hodgson starts to change things around (especially at the back) now the World Cup is out of the way and he has to juggle the blooding of new talent with making sure we qualify for the Euro's.

Possibly. Can't help but think that we all need a re-calibration on what counts as an international class for England.

Jones is still only 22 and hasn't played half as many games at centre back as he should've by now because United have played on his versatility. I still think he has it in him to be a good player for England, but he needs a good season or two in his position to kick on.

Similar could be said for Chambers and Stones. Both are very young for defenders and are being used at right back and centre back whilst being blooded by their respective clubs. Hopefully they get enough games to learn their trade before being written off.

It'll also be interesting to see how Micah Richards gets on in Italy. He might've burnt his bridges with Hodgson but I still think he's another who has the ability to be a useful player for England.
