LoyalRoyal22 Its quite obvious, the club and the new owners just don't have the money. If they did it wouldn't be difficult to strengthen in one or two areas. I mean, we have made £5m+ on McCarthy and Morrison.

Well the 'new owners' still aren't ratified, so I wouldn't be expecting them to pour millions into a club they still might not yet own. Plus we have no idea how much of that £5m is earmarked for contract extensions. Plus if it's true we borrowed against parachute payments last year, then this year we're going to have to have more money in the coffers just to cover the wages of the players that are still at the club.

The chances are they are ratified but not disclosing that as it would surely increase buying prices. A bit of poker face going on. In terms of not buying players i'm sure they are trying, Nabil said that two of our targets have turned us down (one for a prem club) you can't force players to join us.

That's a possibility I guess? Either way, there are definitely more options than we don't have/want to spend the money. Prices soar on deadline day anyway, and with the players we have to come back in the only position we could do with a permanent guy in is up front, so let's cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Yes but they are bound to turn us down if we're offering them £5 a week plus a Kingsley cuddly toy - the club aren't lying if they say they've made an offer and been turned down! It all depends on how strong that offer is.... they must know how much they can afford to spend - so perhaps they go after players way out of their league (excuse the pun) just to make it look like they are doing something.

Won't need to spend it on contract extensions if the club don't display a bit more ambition and determination in terms of strengthening the squad. Why would our best players want to commit themselves to staying with a club if it isn't looking capable of moving forwards. Can see them sitting back and quite happily running down the remainder of their contracts making a good move and decent signing on fee far more likely.

I think this squad is capable of moving forward if it can stay injury free. I don't think there's many places that need permanently filling, striker most probably. LB could do with a short term loan until Kelly can come back in, or the midfield so Obita can drop back. Obviously bringing in Murray is a really positive sign, but there's no need to splash money around where it's not really needed. Bringing in players just for the sake of it doesn't help anybody. We have a terrific starting XI (below), this is the one year where I don't think it would be too much of an issue to actually use the loan market until we bring some of those players back in. Of course we actually have to do that rather than just saying it.

Then we can all relax and know the club's future would be in safe hands.

What a relief that would be.

M8 - I'm already in with Sassima and Samrit - Sassima even PM'd me the other day.... with their backing, I'll be fine. I'll be signing good looking blokes though in future too. Everyone's a winner 8)

Why would our best players want to commit themselves to staying .

they dont, if a better club offering more money comes knocking
and do if a better club doesnt come knocking

hence why weve had so many of our better players sign extensions over the last ten years

lets be fair, if a team comes offering more money and more chance of success, to any player at any team in the world, except possibly barca and real
that player is gone.

it may take a year, but hes basically gone

Depends whose asking, If the club receive a bid and the player says he's happy here then he has to be paid compensation for moving on, if he says he wants to go then they can take that as him requesting a move and he gets nothing.

Players who move around a lot make the most money as they get their old contract paid up (or agree a fee) by their old club, get a signing on fee at their new club and get a salary increase every time.
