I don't understand this - nine matches wouldn't cover 4 months so why not just say banned for 4 months from playing football. :|

Yes, this statement makes it a bit clearer:

Fifa "A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suarez in accordance with art. 21 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code as follows: the player Luis Suarez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suarez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).

"The player Luis Suarez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of 100,000 Swiss Francs (£65,600)."

Covers friendlies or not? That would make a huge difference

Apparently he can appeal, but even if he does he's still out of the World Cup.

One for the lawyers, I'd imagine.

Uruguay to arrange nine friendlies between now and Saturday.

Tim Vickery said on R5 that he's out of the Copa America next year, and possibly qualifiers for the next WC. Implies friendlies don't count.

There's no rush. They've got 4 months to play them, if friendlies count, which I don't think they do.

I liked this stat - Suarez has now been banned for 34 matches since the last World Cup, without receiving a red card in that time.

So it's four months from all football, and 9 competitive international matches. Can still get a transfer though.

Copa America is 6 games if you get to the final so yeah this is basically a 2 tournament ban, possibly more if Uruguay fail to get out of the group stage in the Copa America

I don't get it, Liverpool fans want him out after this incident and are now complaining that he won't play some games for them?

Is this good or bad for the development Sturridge - he's shone alongside Suarez, but it would be good to see him now the leader of a partnership with Lambert.
