No Fixed Abode So Jason thinks Sturrridge is the best young British talent there is.

I wonder why that is?

because he thinks Sturrridge is the best young British talent there is?

Yeah - And no doubt he thinks Eric the eel is the best swimmer ever. :|

Maybe he is just much less easily rattled about life than you

They're waiting for the final report to come back on his injury before making it all official

lardydah Hopefully now he'll stop this "inch towards the mile" rubbish...

Player comes to Reading. Helps us win promotion to premiership. Gets injured, tries to come back but because of injury can't get fit. Accepts year's extension ( who wouldn't?). Gets opportunity to earn extra money whilst he is injured ( who wouldn't? ). Would you have done anything different if you were him????

Yeah, I'd have retired, taken my insurance payout and pursued my media career full time allowing the club that gave me a last hurrah and the winners medal I craved to move on without me hanging around doing nothing but being a drain on their resources.

One assumes that you know all about the T&C's of his current contract then Ian?

Pray tell, how much did this drain on resources actually (net) cost us then?

I know he took up a place in our squad and our treatment room and that he wasn't doing it for free. Good enough for me.

Jason Roberts has robbed RFC every which way but loose! I often do'nt agree with Ian-Royal but here he is spot on. There were a good few players with reputation, ability, etc. etc. who could have been brought in to help with the then promotion push. He did not give us promotion. In the Premiership, with a proper Transfer Window, he would have been 5th Striker anyway. The idea that he should still be with us now, regardless of relegation or not, is risible. He was past his best two years ago without the injury.

What Roberts has proved is that he has little honesty and no decency. It is HIM, HIM, HIM and the idiots at RFC are going to pay for it!

deary me.

So we are so important that we don't honour our contracts now?

As I said, if you know what his net cost to Reading FC has been during his entire stay here, then tell us.

Until then, do your research.

Calm down ya prick

I am not the one getting into a hissy-fit about what an ex player may or may not have cost us.

Goodness me. What has Jason done wrong? You make out like he's some sort of criminal here. He's been a good servant to this club, on and off the pitch, and we have a contract to honour regardless of his injuries.

I knew, a long time ago, that he would not play for us again. Yet, in the papers and media, for weeks and months, he was 'almost' back - picked up on by contributors to this site and stated as a fact. Meanwhile, it was quite obvious that he had already changed career and was stepping up his media commitments and taking his coaching badges.

An injured RFC player would still be at Home matches (injury permitting) one hopes, unless he was already in a new career as a TV pundit! If so, he should do the honest thing and retire!

The contract which allowed JR to still be on our books now was a definate cock-up. That is the Club's fault. However, only a very sad individual, knowing his own inability to contribute AND already working in new areas, would PRETEND to the extent that he has. Had he been off the books in January, it may have given us the leeway to actually add to the squad as Adkins wanted and we might now not be slipping slowly out of the top six!

Jason Roberts has cost us no more money than was originally budgeted for when we signed his contract.

In fact he will have cost less as there would be no bonus payments for wins, goals or appearances.

Both sides have honoured their contracts.

That is all

As for the other side of the argument, I believe the club should have considered suing him.

If the injury is real, which lets face it, it isn't - then it is his responsibility as a professional athlete to recover from that injury. The evidence against him is Jem Karacan who has recovered from a leg break in the meantime (only for it to happen again). Jason Roberts has access to the sort of medical treatment and physiotherapy that we don't, so he really should be recovering. If he can't recover then it is also his responsibilty to ensure that he is in at least part insured against his contract. We should have sued him for that part of his insurance, and paid him off the rest - saving us money in the long run. I say 'should have' as it all seems a bit late in the day now.

Quite why we haven't taken JR to task and forced the issue is the mystery. No-one believed the 'he'll be back in six weeks' news we would sporadically get, and now the OS has stopped issuing the updates altogether. We know this is a busted flush, have known for quite some time, and the club have done nothing to protect themselves from what is happening. To defend JR when he is being paid simultaneously by another employer is defending the indefensible.

And surely there must be some disquiet amongst the other players who do actually earn their wages - especially those earning less than him. We have to prioritise their motivation. I see absolutely no benefit in keeping JR at the club.

I take it you've seen the X-Rays and are a consultant Orthopaedics specialist?

Why not try to separate the stuff "in your mind" from basic facts.

Seems to me he's got something degenerative like arthritis and has been refusing to admit defeat. I'd have just given up as soon as the words hip replacement were mentioned.
