Leeds fans are creaming themselves over the thought of playing attractive, passing football

Does Brian actually believe the rubbish he comes out with?

sandman Guthrie was not mis-used to anywhere near the extent he was made out to be Guthrie simply was not willing to adapt his game which if he was as good as he is made out to be by himself and on here he would have had no problem with doing. The simple fact is he doesn't have a great attitude or a great deal of application. Jem is a great example of Emperors new clothes! He does the same sideways passing that he always has done bar one pass against Fulham where there was no pressure on the game. Let's see how he does in the middle of December against Huddersfield.

"Guthrie was not misused. He was asked to adapt his game."
Sorry sandman, buying a deep play maker and asking him to be a water carrier or playing him as an attacking midfielder IS misusing him. If you want someone to do that, buy a player who does it.

But that would mean paying money for two or three players, much better to get one who's good at one thing then try to shoe horn them into other roles. It's the Reading way.... (under JM).

You really are clueless. Karacan was atrocious under McDermott last season, always hooking the ball on and running around aimlessly. He's improved immensely to the levels he was at before since Adkins came in.

Like I said if he was as good as you think he is then he would've been able to adapt. In fact you've shown well his lack of willingness to work hard with your reply and proved the point about his lack of application.

I will give him credit for one thing he is a great politician and has pulled the wool over people's eyes brilliantly.

Might as well put Kebe in goal, ALF at left back, Pog just infront of the defence, Morro upfront and McCarthy on the wing then. If they are that good they'll be able to adapt.

As usual the truth is somewhere inbetween the two stupid extremes. Guthrie was not used in a way to make the most of his ability, but a decent player should be able to adapt, especially from one midfield role to another where the difference isn't quite as extreme as a striker playing goal or whatever silly example is being chucked about.

Guthrie under-performed in a different role, and has been fair in more familiar positions. He should have done a bit better, though needs a bit of slack cut for being used in a different way.

I can understand why he threw a strop at some baffling decisions but he's supposed to be a professional and should have behaved better.

If he puts in a good shift this season, all should be forgiven by even his most hardened critics. For now, the benefit of the doubt should be given to enable him the chance to meet his original expectations.

Obviously not as extreme as a forward playing in goal (although don't tell Sir Trevor, Jimmy Quinn or David Speedie that) but playing relatively deep and dictating the play when it's largely in front of you is totally different to playing 'in the hole' and working with you're back to goal and linking up in behind the forwards.

It's certainly enough to make a decent player in one role look like a fish out of water in the other. Some like Gerrard or Scholes can do it to varying degrees, but to expect a player of Guthries abilty to be a match winner out of position like that just doesn't work. McDermott proved that.

I'm not sure common sense posts like that have any place on this messageboard to be honest.

Back to the original subject. I see that Brian McDermott responded to chants of "it's your round, Brian" from the Leeds fans at their friendly in Slovenia by passing a €50 note into the crowd.

Thus far, Nigel Adkins hasn't bought me shit, so on this basis I would like BMc back.
