FridaysGhost I'm surprised that Roberts and one or two others are on the retained list. We need squad improvement but it's pointless having players on big salaries not playing. If we bring in a decent striker, an attacking midfielder, a winger etc. we are going to end up with a large squad again and some won't play. Maybe we expect to lose some of the retained list but I still think Roberts is a waste of a shirt.
Isn't Roberts under contract? - If so, we have to honour the contract or negotiate a settlement to terminate it, which may involve paying it up in full.... so, we either keep him or release him and it costs us the same.

Having said that, Roberts may regain his fitness and prove an asset or he may have to retire though injury and we can claim on the insurance.

SCIAG
maffff Losasso Charlie Carrington
Webb Joshua Richard Charles Darren Morgan

Fosu Tariqe Kumahl Malachi Akwesi Retained
McAnuff Joel Joshua Frederick Melvin Retained
Pogrebnyak Pavel Viktorovich Retained
Ugwu Chigozie Eze Retained
Ikpeazu Karl Anthony Uchechukwu Mubiru Offer Contract
Murombedzi Shepherd Takunda Offer Contract
Taylor-Crossdale De'juane Ardell Kyle Retained

These players should be known exclusively by their full names.

TBF to the senior Pogrebnyaks, the Viktorovich is a Slavic naming convention rather than a given name. Mr and Mrs McAnuff have no such excuse.

Imagine trying to print "Viktorovich-Pogrebnyak" on the back of a shirt. Or having the initials PVP.

How does that make it official? If I create another list with Pearce in a different place and publish it online would that be official?

That list is provided to the Premier League by Reading. So yes, it's official[01 July?].

Pearce told Sky Sports News: "I've always maintained that I want to stay at Reading and I've always told people at the club that I want to stay at Reading and that is the case.

"But I also want to feel valued and I'm not asking to be the top-earner at the club, nowhere near it.

"I'm just asking to be on par with some of the others and it's up to the people at the club to make me feel valued in that case because that's all I want to be, is be made to feel valued.

"They (contract talks) are still on-going and hopefully we can get a deal reached at Reading.

"But, obviously, it's very flattering to be linked with Premier League clubs, everyone wants to play in the Premier League and certainly I've had a taste of it this year and I certainly want more of it in my future."

Asked if he would be playing Premier League football for another club next season or in a Reading shirt in two seasons' time, Pearce replied: "I think playing Premier League football is the main aim for me right now, I think everyone wants to play Premier League football.

"But obviously, if a deal can be reached at Reading, then I would be more than happy to sign it and move forward with the club."

Sounds like Leeds have been in touch but can't afford him. Beyond that, doesn't look like it!

Anton said that he'd said that, problem is that his agent has caused him to have an inflated opinion of what he is worth.

All power to the club not to back down on this one. Don't mind him staying, do mind over paying.

So being player of the season didn't make him feel valued enough?

I'm really not sure why you'd think a list submitted by the club to the Premier League and then hosted on the Premier League website as they do every year wasn't official.

There are 70 odd pages on the Drenthe thread where people were waiting for him to be signed 'officially' i.e. The club to announce it.

The club never mentioned Pearce being released, the latest news a couple of weeks ago was that he specifically hadn't been released and the club were still in talks with him. That makes any news of him being released look pretty unofficial to me.

How do you know that his wage demands were too high rather than Reading trying to lowball him because he'd come up through the Academy?

Yep, as I said in the Alex Pearce thread:

yappy Why is everyone making such a fuss with the retained and released list? Do people realise they aren't in any way binding?

Premier League Please note that players signified as a "free transfer" by a club could remain there next season and so this list should not be seen as definitive for players leaving their club.

Nothing has changed in the Pearce situation since Adkins spoke out about it. Likelihood is he is gone, but we haven't given up.
