Let's just keep a player on the pitch who cannot even take a throw-in properly, when we have a player who has proven time and time again that he can score coming off the bench.

Sorry - When did he last score off the bench in a meaningful game?

Obviously but people have the right to ask about it as no subs is a very rare occurrence, especially for a team who were losing by one goal and chasing the game.

Interesting that a lot of those defending the move not to use any were the same ones complaining about the use of subs earlier in the season.

Most of this season.

I suppose Adkins was right though, what a goal threat Blackman was.

It doesn't matter, you have subs for a reason. The problem you and others have Haag is that you've painted yourselves into a corner given the complaints about the use of subs earlier in the season.

'A whopping 42 per cent of league goals they have scored in 2012/13 have been in the final 15 minutes of games.'

As poster stated above he is quite clearly stamping his style of play on the team, whilst spotting players who are in and out and want to be apart of it next season. If it meant we made a push for safety then bonus but that quite clearly has not happened.

Absolutely obvious there will be a mass clear out and in same way an influx of new players coming in. We will spend a fair sum in the summer. For him to of taken this job he would of insisted on considerable sums for next season.

I for one am quite excited about it all.

Indeed, madness that on a day where we completed the most passes we have done all season, had the most possession we've had in just about any game this season, had 14 shots (9 on target) which is the most we've had in any away game all season...we are instead talking about the fact he didn't make any subs.

Complete madness.

But under NA they have singularly failed to deliver since he joined, you can't help but agree with him - why bring them on?

I get the impression that Adkins is rapidly coming to the conclusion that the job he has is not how it was sold to him i.e. not the same as the brochure he was given. So good luck to him in shaking out the rubbish we have been dealt this season.

We have nothing to lose, why didn't he just throw on another striker?

So what if we lose 3-1, we could have drawn 2-2 or win 3-2.

What is the point of passing the ball around the back on 90 minutes when we have no end product?

Who are these people your referring to? Name and shame if you have the evidence.
Personally, if I was manager I would always make 3 subs by the 80th minute at the latest (unless a potential penalty shootout is in the mix).
If a fresh player on the bench cannot make any more impact than a player who has already been running around for over an hour then the gap between the starting X1 and the subs is too large.

I would also not put a sub goalkeeper on the bench (usually a goal keeper subbed off happens about once per season max, so this policy would only likely cost a maximum of 3 points, but would result in more options on the bench in every game over the season)

andrew1957 Terrible management by Adkins. Poor team selection and absolutely no attempt to win the game and no substitutions to even try to get out of the hole.

Our admittedly very slim chances of survival went out of the window when Brian was sacked.

I hope Adkins turns out to be a good choice in the longer term but I have been extremely underwhelmed so far.

Can't you see what Adkins is doing? He's trying out the players for future reference. He really hasn't got much at the moment to be honest, playing the other managers style of football, it being drummed into them for 3yrs+, it will take many months to refine this team to the way Adkins wants it.

Sandman would tell you this too, as he's an expert on management.

Why bring them on because they've failed to deliver you say? Why name them at all then? We keep hearing that he is looking at every player to see what is required well what better way to look at different players than to make subs and see how they react to a different kind of scenario, the opportunity to change a game?

Well here's one from the person the criticism was aimed at.

winchester_royal BFTG Saints away thread Genuinely disgusted by that. No quality on show from any player at any point in that match. 2500 travelling let down by clueless tactics, clueless players, and clueless substitutions.

Too angry to write anything rational, so I'll leave it at this:

McDermott out

They were clueless, but because they had a negative impact, not because they were made too late.
