Norfolk Royal
noelgallagher Having a medical today and signing for Reading FC.

We will look back in anger if that's wrong Noel.

Little by Little Hammond seems to be increasing the bid, I'm sure it's all part of The Masterplan, I hope we're not all left thinking Where did it go Wrong, I guess we should just Roll with it!

But McDermott is confident the offer of guaranteed first-team football at Reading could be a huge factor in landing the versatile 20-year-old.

I know for 8 million he ought to be playing every week but I still don't like this sort of quote for an unproven player at this level.

I am not one for bold statements - but if we get him, I think he will perhaps prove to be the highest quality signing in our history.

I know a lot of people are questioning the £8 million and saying it could be spent better but actually I think whatever way you look at it, the chances are it will turn out to be a very good bit of business by Reading.

Im quite confident Ince will be able to perform at this level no problem. A lot of the top Championship players who have made the step up to the PL such as Walcott, Bale, Snodgrass and Moses have been able to make the same impact. Its not as if Ince has been hot and cold over the last season or so he has been at the top of his game the majority of the time.

I'm thinking Ince is only going to improve as a player if he joins. The inevitablity is that he will most likely eventually go on to join a top 4 side in three or so years time if he carries this form on. Even if we pay £8 million to have him for only a couple of years, It wouldn't surprise me if his valuation were to double during this period.

All in all I think its a win win situation for all parties concerned if we manage to stay up even if we do go down and need to sell him, providing he performs well I can't see us having difficulty commanding that fee from PL clubs.

Bit of perspective needed here!

He's one of the most highly-rated young wingers in England, and if he was proven at this level he wouldn't be joining us. That we are in for him shows ambition and Brian seems confident he can sell Reading as an opportunity for Ince to develop into the player he seems destined to be.

When you consider the likes of Lennon, Milner and Johnson are in the England set up, there's every chance Ince will be too by this time next year, once he has a Premier League platform.

As with most things I expect the media are sensationalising the figures involved and that £8m will include adds on which will only kick in if he's a success here and we benefit from that.

I'd expect the upfront cost will be a lot more palatable but, at the end of the day, the going rate for a player who can make some sort of difference at this level and retain/increase in value is what we have to pay.

As we've seen with Saha, if we don't bite the bullet and pay the going rate we miss out and then would probably be kicking ourselves 12 months down the line.

Agree with what you say but I still don't like a quote that says 'guaranteed first team football'

If you believe the reports that is what we did with Guthrie.

That went well.

Dunno if is been discussed on here before but it was interesting listing to Paul Ince after Sundays Liverpools FA Cup defeat where he said tom moving to liverpool wouldnt be the right time for him and more or less said he wouldnt get a game there if he signed for them

So i bet BM and the team have offered him first team football :D

What reports about Guthrie? People reading into his choice of club?

The quote above is somebody comparing his chances of getting games for 7th place Liverpool, with some very good midfield options, and 19th placed Reading. It won't be a definitive 'you're certain to play here' from McDermott but a realism that he's a lot more likely to.

First team football, yes. Guaranteed, that's another thing and Fordham has supposedly quoted Brian on it.

How many other players in our squad have been guaranteed first team football? In the last few weeks we have seemed to get the harmony back in the squad but as we have seen earlier in the season the premier league seems to put that harmony on a knife edge.

I do believe he will be a great signing and one that will give us a different dimension that we are crying out for.

My biggest fear if we sign him is that he may eclipse Jimmy's greatness and what that would do for the followers of his religion?!

Edit:

Sorry didn't read it clearly. It wasn't quoted from McD, just Fordhams writing.

Another factor in the transfer maybe that his dad is now being loosely linked with the Blackpool Managers job.
