Agreed that the Prem isn't all that. Winning promotion to it is fun though and it's good to have a crack at the big boys (and last time around a good few successes - beating Liverpool and Spurs and drawing with Chelsea away and Man U home and away).

To be fair, if I can have a few pints with my mates and see some decent games I'm really not that fussed anymore what league it's in (though would still rather we stayed up).

Lets face it even in the year we did do well we hardly got noticed. We are here to make up the numbers and the fact Saturdays game isn't a sell out shows people are losing interest already.

I really cannot believe that anyone would seriously prefer that we were in the lower divisions rather than the Premier League.

I have forgotten most of the Championship games of the last 4 seasons but I still remember the home win against Liverpool, the away win at Man City, the two draws against Man U and one against Chelsea, the great home win against Spurs, the 6-0 demolishion of West Ham and even the 0-4 home thrashing by Arsenal.

It is a privilege to play against the best teams in the country and I know that we will lose most games against the top half teams - but every now and then we will have a great result and it is all worthwhile, so for me I hope we stay up as many seasons as we can before the inevitable relegation comes.

'greed.

Can't think why a match against the might of Fulham with their massive array of stars on display wouldn't sell out.

Arnie_Pie Yeah let's have a protest to relegate us now as we are never going to compete up here. I vote for Championsip mid-table obscurity forever!

Not that extreme but I would rather see us compete properly for The Championship of The Championship (not worried about the promotion after) on a regular basis. At least the playing field is a bit more level there.

This is great therapy - thanks. I have been through many poor seasons but still looked forward to the Saturdays and the away days with gusto. I wonder if my jaded outlook is down to the the hope and expectation with Anton and the takeover, the 25 man squad made up of players who didn't play last year, the fact that the season has been stop start or the timings of the kickoffs if I am just turning into the miserable bast%rd I used to sit in front of. I have no intention of not going , giving up my season ticket or wishing we were in the Championship I would just like to feel optimistic rather than just hopeful .... :| (I do like the yellow kit and the book styled programs) Anyway lunch time :D

All anyone cares about in this league is money and results. All the media care about are the big 4/5 clubs and their troops of foreign stars/disappointments depending on your POV. Everyone else can get stuffed as far as they're concerned. Sadly it's the only level worth playing at (although the football and competitiveness in DIVISION 2 (cos we all know that's what it is) is much more entertaining).

Oh to be able to go back to the days before SKY when DIVISION 1 was at least relatively level (when compared to today that is).

Anyone who thinks the football league is better than EPL is just kidding themselves. Everyone strives to be a premier league club. I'll take being a yoyo club for a couple seasons.

not had midtable championship obscurity for many many seasons tbf
always been in or around the playoffs, pretty much always been able to achieve something on the last day of the season

personally i dont care what league we are in.

love the championship
but ill also love the premire league if we manage to pull ourselves together after our traditional slow start and stay up, ramming it down everyones throats

winchester_royal These threads always seem to pop up when things aren't going quite as well.

Just you wait till we give United a good hiding in a month, then the same posters will be getting a Brian McDermott tattoo on their foreskin.

I don't enjoy losing to the likes of West Brom etc.

But I love the feeling of seeing some of the best players in the world playing against Reading, and bothering to put effort in against us. It's hard to explain, but I just loved watching Hazard, Oscar etc playing against us and performing - not just putting in a half arsed performance. I just enjoy playing the big teams an their incredible talents, and enjoying beating teams in the lower half.

Blinkered.

The championship sometimes has sides like Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Peterboro and Rotherham
and all bar a select few of the very best Championship players are also-rans at the bottom of the
Premiership, or warm Prem benches.

People on this board slag off Liverpool whose ordinary players would be Gods in the Championship,
and seemingly overlook Johnson, Gerard, Sterling and Suarez (and that a side currently below half-way)

It is a FABULOUS league with many, many, many brilliant games and some absolutely awesome players.

Tevez, Robin Van Persie, Hazard, Mata, Suarez, Ballotelli, Rooney, Aguero, Cisse, Ba, Walcott,
Bale, Gerard, Lampard, Toure, Fellaini, Nani, Silva, Malouda, Mikel,
Kompany, Collocini, Baines, Vidici, Cole, Terry

These and a hundred more. Jeez, how can you not want to watch players like this, teams like
The European Champions?

Sure we aren't doing well ATM, but if we stay up, 14th/17th and then next season we are 10th-12th
and the season after a top ten side, that will be magnificent.

All that currently worries me is the way we pay too much respect, sit back and then look awful.

It's against our team-nature and the nature of our individual players.

If we are going to go back down, let's do it with pride and honour, fighting like Blackpool.*

*Trouble is, this "dire" way (if we beat our relegation rivals) may turn out to be the best way.

If the GD differential continues it will be worth a point by season's end and then we just need to
take 4 points of three of the bottom 6 clubs to stand a very good chance of staying up

i,m tending to treat this season as a year off from proper football. can,t work up much enthusiasm for watching us trying to hang on every time (though i do! :? ). i know some saints fans who also feel this way. its great to win the championship but without mega investment, it seems to bring lots of disappointment with some good managers usually getting sacked along the way.

Big Foot As soon as the euphoria of winning the title died down, I wasn't looking forward to this season

Genuinely glad that we're crap and going down though, much prefer the Football League to Premier League

+1

Quote from Saturday night as the League table appears up on the screen..

Me "we're down"

Him "Nah, I reckon you'll be alright in the end m8"

Me "I fucking hope not!"

I am not enjoying the Prem, mainly because we never win any games due to us having the worst team in the division.

madstadblues Not sure if it's me but it's more about getting through 90 minutes than enjoying the ride. Even though I diligently record MOTD and the Sky Highlights I haven't managed to bring myself to watch them or even bought a Sunday paper to savour the greater exposure. Not sure if it's a mid life crisis thing (only going to QPR for the ace Kebab shops down Loftus Road) or if it's just a bit embarassing that everyone can see we aren't very good (where as in the old days when we weren't much cop it was only between friends). I am looking forward to being convinced that my glass is actually half full and not full of P1ss!
