No. It's the opposite.
Being the lone striker in a 4-5-1 places much greater demands on the striker, he has to run about everywhere, and pressure the opponent defenders when on the ball, and chase down opponents.
I don't think Pogrebnyak is suited for a 4-5-1, he's not very mobile.

Lack of service is only half an excuse. Strikers, like any other player, should be fighting to contribute, get involved and create chances of their own.

He's looking like a waste of f/cking time to me and I'm losing confident in our other signings who are becoming more and more anonymous with each game.

Yes, but when the forwards have to keep coming back into midfield to look for the ball because the midfield isn't doing anything significant, then you're bound to be unable to attack effectively.

But that isn't what is happening. Pog for example is being dispossesed or beaten every time he recieves the ball. He isn't linking up or holding up play, he isn't finding space or winning it in the air. Fine, not a lot of crosses have gone in for him, but a forward shouldn't have to be given it on a plate to make a contribution.

I know i'm coming back a while here, and i'm not picking on you particularly but as I said on another thread - I see a really talented player with a great touch who brings others into the game. Sadly he's been ploughing a lonely furrow upfront with an underperforming midfield around him. 4 goals in 8 now is it? Something like that.

Can't make up my mind about Pog. Obviously very talented and clearly has a good scoring habit. But he's slow and ponderous. Shows quick feet and strength to hold off defenders and can be excellent in holding up the ball and linking play. But he's also looked like he's wearing concrete boots at other points.

I want to like him, but I'm not warming to him for some reason. I'd prefer to see Roberts starting, but then again its a bit early to drop him.

Sorry what??? Did you watch our game last weekend? He was immense against Newcastle & BM should never have subbed him - we went rapidly downhill after that. Every game I've seen I've thought he's looked a cut above anything else we have.

His goal celebration on MOTD was quite muted tonight though. He is probably thinking WTF have I done coming here!

TBF he would be a hero if the keeper hadn`t got a lucky block with his foot, he did everything right shooting low to the keepers feet, but that how it goes when you are down the bottom.

Agreed, but i feel he typified it today.

Leigertwood hasn't done anything consistently this season. He was found out at Sheffield United in the Prem and he is no better with us. He looks sluggish and sloppy. we should be playing a 4-4-2 formation with Karacan and Guthrie in the middle. A mixture of creativity and energy come defensive work from Jem.

This weeks scapegoat is Brian McDermott for his persistence with the negative unrewarding 4-4-1-1 / 4-5-1 long ball hit and hope football. It has to change. We are a 4-4-2 team with good wingers and hard working strikers. The midfield is lost to lump it football, and one up front is a waste of time.

Go back to what we know and do well, before time runs out and the manager gets changed.
