Simon's Church  How many howlers does he have to make before we're allowed to criticise him?

TBH we looked knackered after an hour so could have lost anyway but the players head's obviously dropped when they equalised. If we can regularly get anywhere close to playing at the level we were from 25-45mins we'll do fine this season.

Like the pratt on BBCRB at the weekend, the challenge is there - list all of these numerous howlers you imply he has made.

2 in 2 games, last season has no bearing on current form.

Thank f*ck you aren't our manager.

And well bottled out of the challenge. You imply he has made numerous howlers and is a liability only to then concentrate on just two games from his whole career at the club.

Personally, and I know we didn't challenge it, I thought their penalty was soft.

Ideal
AbovetheI It's not as if we were expected to win.

So f**king what!?
We were 2-1 up and looking comfortable, then Federici shit his pants, the referee allowed them to score a blatantly offside goal, and Federici shit himself again.
ARE WE NOT ALLOWED TO BE UPSET THAT WE DONT GET THE THREE POINTS WE DESERVE?
Which team do you support anyway?

Harte's delivery has looks pretty average whenever I've seen him since about Christmas time.

What an injustice though. As pleasing as our performance was, we need points, and we were properly jewed out of at least 1 there.

Linesman on the near side can go oxf*rd himself. Utter prick.

Ah well. Well done to the lads, everyone should be very proud. Perform like that every game and we'll stay up, no problem.

leww_rfc Whoevers blaming Feds is an idiot.. if he'd scored then he'd be your hero.

Any keeper would've gone up then

Doesn't negate the fact he's made his second error directly leading to a goal conceding does it?

FWIW, I think McDermott had it wrong this evening. Absolutely the right team to start, playing the sit back and counter game with five in midfield but to open the game up against such a team with world class players showed a naivety that I thought McDermott would have known better to do. We were good value for the lead and had Chelsea with the five man midfield (first 20 apart), Pogrebnyak played the lone role superbly with Guthrie in behind and Leigertwood and Karacan doing what they do best. Chelsea were rattled after the equaliser and couldn't get into their stride for a good hour of that game either side of half time, and even then they had to rely on strokes of luck to win in the form of Federici's error and a linesman's shite decision.

That said, the positives (that right now are difficult to take) are that we matched one of England's best teams for long periods and on another day, with more luck and better more experienced judgement, would have at least got a point from that I feel.

I'm not going to moan too much. I half expected us to be pasted by four goals and considered putting a tenner on us to concede four (I wish I had now  ) but to make such a cracking go of the game, play so well and run the European champions so close shows the level we can attain with this squad of players. IF we continue to play to that level and cut out the silly errors both individually and tactically we'll have no problem with finishing well above relegation.

Proud to be a Reading fan. Great performance, shame about the result and the nature of the defeat. i thought the new signings played well.

Ascotexgunner Could Terry have seen red for that tackle on Jobi? Seemed to me he was clean through.

No. You have forgotten - Terry is always innocent, even when everyone else knows damn well he is guilty. A thoroughly nasty bit of work. Thank god we will never sign him - he and Barton should be cast adrift together.

RFCSPACE We'll be down again on goal difference. What a waste of time.

Does that matter? As an old person, most of the games I've seen have been in the 4th division.
If you support the team, you take the rough with the smooth.

Alas modern football is full of glory hunters. :o

I am stunned that the linesman didn't flag

no players blocking his view

the offside player was the clearly behind the line of defenders and on his side of the pitch

it's mindboggling

i never really got into this whole cheating, corrupt stuff but he would want to be the most cross-eyed incompetent twat in the history of officiating or he was thrown a trusty old bing full of roubles and some complinmentary vouchers to get two Russian hookers for the price of one

honestly, fuming by that - season has barely started and already we have a game-changing utterly clueless decision

oh and all four Reading goals were terrible and avoidable

gunter - stupid pen

federici - error

linesman monumental cock-up

and then the keystone cops chasing back and no goalkeeper for the fourth

i feel sorry for the players who worked like trojans and then get let down by the officials and their goalkeeper, the sport can be tough and cruel and chelsea didn't break Reading down once this evening, we shot ourselves in the three times and then the linesman added another - gutting

We would not have gone chasing that goal if the score had been 2-2. It was that cheating c8nt linesman who put us in that situation.

Well, it is frustrating to think that but for two errors from Federici, a miss from Pearce and an offside goal, we'd quite probably be top of the league on six points.

And I do NOT consider going up for a last minute corner to be an error on his part. We threw the dice and we got caught. It didn't change the result in anyway.

3 howlers in first 2 games good enough for you ?

Oh come on. Sh1t happens sometimes. Plenty of positives - Guthrie & McCleary looking great, Jem is back. We've just played the European Champions away from home FFS. Perspective please.

My pet hate is " positive " bollox after we've lost to the Europeam champions after being 2-1 up with 15 minutes to go and our goalie makes a howler a sunday league keeper would be ashamed of ....positives my arse , we lost

Ups and Downs You can't do that twice in two premier league matches and not set off alarm bells.

Yeah but cant panic and drop your keeper yet. let him settle

Fukk that! Drop him. It's still the same game he's playing. If he can't handle the pressure and is gonna make mistakes like that then get him off.

Yeah I'm sure McDermott is thrilled with Federici's form, you don't think 2 howlers in 2 games is enough for people to question how he's then?
