Why the grief at Reading ? Sadly, this is football today.

Who on this site has been to an Engerland game in the last 10 years ? There is NEVER a chant or song started without the painful band kicking it off. Horrendous.

This is football these days. Hate it or not, it ain't going away.

End of thread. Please.

This is how working class sport is sold to the middle classes. After all, they may have less passion, but they do have more disposable income. We've been keeping their seats warm, for this the club are grateful. They gave us success, for this we are grateful. Its business and now its leaving its integrity behind in order to evolve. Get into 'em fuck 'em up if you ask me.

 another shit marketing technique from Reading who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

They also want people to bring scarves. Who is going to wear a scarf on a day like today?! (Note to any exiles, or those from Basingstoke, it's about 30 degress round here.) A joke, but yet again, the club won't listen to the majority of fans and choose to listen to STAR.

Fair play for trying to involve the newer fans but these fans are going to be very puzzled when searching for the words of the songs sung today.

As for clappers, very much a pre match gimmick. As others have said it's the performance that generates the atmosphere.

2-0 up = no need for clappers
2-0 down = no need for clappers

When Hicks went up... People getting annoyed about this are just as out of touch with reality as the spaktards that think it's a good idea.

Our atmosphere is, and always has been, among the worst in the league. It's not going to change.

Tomorrow will be the same as almost all previous encounters with Stoke...

Why, why, why Delilah?

Booooooooooooo

WHY, WHY, WHY DELILAH?

*Silence*

Grown men thrown out of East Stand for getting abusive at other fans who don't sing.

Just about sums it up for me.

Reading have a hard core of 40 fans who sing but when the chips are down and team need that bit extra, mediocre noise follows. No denying that the clappers were a massive success last year in terms of noise. Hob nob represents about 0.25% of those in the stadium!

harryroyal Perhaps a bit of inbreeding to make some monsters to scare the opposition.

The people in row cc behind me in the North Stand a couple of seasons ago were intellectually challenged and if I'd had an abacus I would have counted their fingers....

winchester_royal Presume the people moaning about this are the same that criticise the West Stand for being silent.

This sheets will allow the newer fans to feel more involved in the atmosphere, and hopefully join in.

Agreed that these song sheets are probably just to help out the newer fans. It isn't always easy for newer people to hear what people are chanting.

Some people on here moan about when the atmosphere is bad, but moan when the club tries to do something about it too. Make up your minds!

I get the not wanting the club to tell us what to sing thing, but most of the songs on that songsheet are songs I've heard sung anyway, so it's not like the club are writing them for us. It won't kill sponteneity either, we can sing what we like.

The terrace favourite about Danny Guthrie went down well. Didn't hear it sung once

I did sing along to The Impossible Dream (without use of a song sheet) but no-one else appeared to.

It's what they try to do about it that is the problem. Replacing some of the librarians they have appointed as stewards would be far more effective than clappers. Yesterday we were gestured at by a steward for shouting 'Off! Off! Off!' too loudly for his liking when the ref bottled out of giving Whitehead his second yellow for blatently body checking Pog! No swear words, gestures or anything else - just too loud!

So in future I presume we must only whisper any penalty appeals? No seeking to influence officials at the Mad Stand!

No "gheyer" than any of our other videos. It's good to watch and certainly got me in the mood for the game.

The stewards were fine in Y26/25 yesterday from what I saw. Didn't see any songsheets just clappers. I have no opinion on the prematch entertainment as I saw none of it as I was at the bar.

I saw a clapper in the pub post game and it only appeared to have the impossible dream lyrics on it. Though I was quite drunk by then.

I think the other songs were on the other side. I could be wrong too, as I only saw one in the row in front of me.

Nope, only the Impossible Dream was on the clapper. Other songs were on A4 posters I think, but didn't see any of those.

I've never had stewards tell me to keep quiet and I shout a lot worse than "'Off! Off! Off!", but if that has happened that is truly shocking. Out of interest, where were you sitting?

Did the Steward look like Huey Lewis?
