RUMOUR - Stefanos Kapino

by Elm Park Pasty » 23 May 2012 06:27

Mr Fordham has posted this story today:

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... g_fc_coach

Seems to sound a quality goalie, but is that an area that is a priority to improve?

Rumour: Stefanos Kapino

Fordham reckons Sal Bibbo has been out in Greece watching this guy. 18 year old, 6 ft 5 keeper. Apparently they need the money

Can't see us signing a goalkeeper for a long time to be honest... especially not one being scouted by Arsenal/Inter/Juve

Unless we're going to cash in on one or more of the current list

Made some good saves, good reactions and does well 1 on 1 at that level. Not sure its anything McCarthy wouldnt have done playing in that league though to be honest

TBH it might make sense to let McCarthy or Andersen go and bring in a keeper who doesn't have to be named in the 25.

Though I've heard Arsenal want Federici.

Just seen the YouTube video. He's 18, and looks quality. Bring him in, and loan out Andersen

He is quality and JF's reporting is sh*t. It reads as 'Athens Super league' in his article as opposed to the 'Greek Super league'. I could have written it better. T*sser.

Certainly attracting a lot of interest this lad, but not too fussed if we get him or not as we've got quality in abundance between the sticks. Unless there's something we don't know :?

reported on skynews.com today...

According to reports in Greece, Stefanos Kapino is a transfer target for Reading. The Royals are understood to be in talks with Panathinaikos over a deal for the 18-year-old goalkeeper, who last November set a new record for the youngest player to represent his country at senior international level.

Saw him play against England U19s the other day and he was brilliant. Got ridiculously sent off for getting the ball when Afobe was through 1-on-1.

I think he means Athens-based Super League team.

However I just wouldn't feel safe with a Greek between the sticks, going on what I've seen from them lately. If Chalkias is really their best keeper then I'd be worried, he's terrible.

The guy is still young, I think we will bring in the right youth players if we think they are right for the club.

Here is the 'google translator' version of the Greek story. Hilarious. No wonder their country is going bust.

"The newly promoted Premier League (and very rich mercy Anton Zingkarevits) Reading has "lokarei" long Stefano Kapino and reportedly from England has in the pipeline proposal to acquire the 18 year old goalkeeper of Panathinaikos.
Indeed, the day before the semifinal of Euro U-19 with England (among dozens skaout from all over Europe) gave the "present" three-member delegation of Reading, to make one last "tick".
Specifically, the court "Lilekoula" found coach Brian MakNtermont  , the director of football Nick Hammond (old Arsenal goalkeeper) and goalkeeper coach Sal Bibi  (he had attended in Athens in the final match of Youth 'Lucerne' by PAOK ).
The English club has opted Kapino the case, the information indicating that he has prepared a proposal of approximately 2 million :!: :?: , which he will submit soon"

FFS, this a machine translation requiring a modicum of intelligence from the reader. Suffice it to say that the Google rendition supports the rumour.

Disagree.. we clearly want more than one more player. A attempts to sign another striker (Defoe or Rhodes) clearly indicates we feel we need another, and you don't just change your mind because of a friendly hat-trick from Reading's most over-rated and under-performing striker. Taylor may also be offered a short-term deal. So with a right back, and I agree we will get one this week, then that's three more..
