Avon Royal Screw Portsmouth and screw their chavy fans.

At the end of the 07/08 season we went down because they rested up for a cup final. 4 years later we go back up while they head for the abyss.

Karma is a bitch.

I've been trying to explain that to my 13-year old daughter who is now a ST holder and fanatic. She can't understand quite why I detest Portsmouth with a passion all because of that Fulham game four years ago. I think she's starting to get there....

This has to be one of the funniest posts I've seen on any internet forum, ever. He couldn't have been more wrong.

Carlin20 Pompey in a right mess?

Southampton yes.

Pompey, far from it, debts down to 30 million now and in the prem'. The club is one of the most stable clubs in the prem'. Sold 80 millions worth of player alone in the last year or so. Buyer a fraud? Stop reading the press.

All is fine at Pompey.

I think it's more of a will Reading or southampton go out of business first?

The best bit was when he argued that info taken from his own club's accounts was wrong.

It really does roll on from there --and I should add that all of that went down before PFC's first run-in with administration

When that came down, our Carlin was unavailable for comment, and thus he(?) has remained both in the wake of the club's second go-round with it and now the ignominy of its relegation to the third tier is an irreversible fact of footballing life with, lord knows, the possibility of much worse yet to come

Hob Nob Anyone? has remained throughout a sounding board accessible to registered users on a 24-hour basis for the purpose of unburdening themselves in a mutually supportive, collegial, and nurturing milieu, etc

I believe that Pompey, as they are now, will be out of business either before the start of next season, or very soon after it starts.

If their problems weren't enough of a turn off for potential buyers when they were in the Championship (and 2 weeks ago, NO potential buyers had come forward), they are even less likely to find a buyer now they have been relegated.

No ST income, and soon no match day income, yet they have all their fixed overhead costs still to meet.

Bye bye Pompey.

Well, Birch has said that relegation will cost Pompey some £1.3M, and thats a lot when you consider that they have had to rely on forward FL payments to survive since early March....

If Pompey were to fall off of the cliff pre-season...how would that leave Wrexham and the like, post play-offs?

So do none of you lot care about the fans not only of Pompey but any of the many clubs that go skint?
It's not that long ago that we were close to going out of business but with great luck we ended up with a wealthy owner who bankrolled our club through the lower leagues to where we are today.
We fans just turned up and paid our money just like Pompey fans and other fans do but have no influence at all over who controls the club.
It was luck,it came about through desperation.
If Pompey had a Madejski or if Port Vale or Bournemouth or Oxford or any of the many other clubs that have gone through administration had a Madejski they might be where we are today.

So can't you sanctimonious lot find it in your hearts to feel just a bit sorry for fans of other clubs that are now suffering relegation or even extinction at a time when we are delighted with the fortunes of our own club?
At the same time loads of thanks to our current owner for being one of the good guys rather than one of the gangsters associated with many other English (and Scottish) clubs-just think,we might have had one of those and ended up going out of the league like Oxford or Aldershot.
We got lucky-we are no better fans than fans of those other clubs, they are no more pikeys than a lot of our own fans.
Portsmouth is a very similar town to Reading in terms of population,a working-class background and just looking at the terraced houses they are very similar to those that were around Elm Park.

I know a few Pompey fans and none of them are violent (like BOTH sets of fans in the 70s),nor are they chavs or pikeys.
They have been quick to congratulate us on our success this season just as they genuinely commiserated after the Bolton and Swansea play-off games.
I would like to see them with a decent owner and compete again for the sake of the fans.
The rivalry would still be there as it has been over the years but I see no point in kicking them (or other troubled clubs) when they are down.
You would think from some of the postings on here that the posters had a big part to play in Reading's success and presumably think that by shouting "Back the boys and make some noise" they have made the difference.
No you haven't-the Pompey fans have also backed their boys and made some noise especially with that f***ing bell but their spivvy owners have taken them for a ride whereas our owner hasn't.
So how about a bit more grace and class rather than the tosh that some have posted because one day we might get an owner who doesn't live up to his (or her) billing and fleeces the club and we end up playing in the Southern B&Q Discount for the over 60s league or something similar.

needless to say Vic.....of course we feel for their fans (good post btw)

Its the "not once, but twice thing" that riles most fans fom other clubs...........Kitson 20k per week, sorry, did they learn nothing first time?????

Most pompey fans that I encounter seem to be decent sorts, and even they are saying that Pompey need to bomb out and do a pheonix.

A pheonix club such as Pompey would be good for the grass roots game..........over 1k at Reading Town for the visit of Wimbledon some years ago being a prime example....true Pompey fans will follow their team and enjoy their rise from any level (whatever that might be)

Vic, I don't disagree with your sentiment and like you I bear no ill feeling towards Portsmouth fans who, like fans of any club are in the main a credit to that club. And I feel sorry for those fans that it looks unlikely they will watching Portsmouth FC as they know it in the football league next season.

But do I want Pompey as it currently exists to find a buyer and play on? No I don't. Football is increasingly a business more than a sport and clubs like Reading who earn the right to play in the top division(s) within tight financial constraints should be applauded. Those that seek to take shortcuts to the Premier League, or to cup wins, or to places in Europe - shortcuts only available owing to weak regulation of the industry and the bottomless pockets of owners with little interest in their clubs' history and legacy, and little requirement to make a short-term profit - those teams should be left to flounder in their own problems when their pack of cards comes tumbling down.

Portmouth FC took some massive risks and has relied on luck, the generosity of the Premier League, Football League and its creditors, and the naivity and arrogance of successive owners. I hope they fold.

I don't disagree with that -it needs a big (gish)club to go completely for sense to take over in football finances.
As you can detect, what I didn't like was the naff slagging off of their fans as if the fans could have done something about it.
