rfcjoe Uh oh. I can see The Sun printing those quotes soon.

If they went through every forum in the country trawling up this kind of stuff there wouldn't be enough hours in the day. Sure there are far more "exciting" versions of events out there that meet the sensationalist aspirations of the press. Plus she hadn't seen him for some time, certainly since he'd been back together with his family so I can't shed any light on what specifically happened at the weekend, only that his personal life had been complicated recently.

Like Tredder says, RIP Gary Speed. We can only dream of what you might have achieved.

Tredder Spacey: Doesn't understand why Gary Speed hanged himself. RIP (shocking grammar)

Treds: cos he was gay

Unless Spacey has enriched the football connected and has a friends list that can out trump your list of Trevor Senior and Michael Gilkes, i really don't think a casual line on one of his statuses is going to rock the media world, or cause discomfort, unless you decide to take umbrage, based on a poster that often posts rubbish anyway, remember, this is Spaceys status, not yours, so i'm having a wild guess that your friend that knew him, isn't connected with Spacey.

With the new FB layout - he does know now. I just find it incredible that someone would feel the need to put something that they are just speculating on - no-one else bothered to put a reply to Spacey's question - because NOBODY KNOWS.

Well send my apologies to them, and i'll see if Google can stem the speculation flow as well.

The Prisoner There is loads of rumour on the net that he was about to be "outed". Just seems like an obvious 2+2 to me as people try and think of something sensational that might have caused this. Really doubt there is any truth in it.

Its the standard assumption really. They said that about Steve Coppell when he quit Man City without a proper explanation.

Indeed - but IF (and only if) it does come out that a tabloid had something on him and was about to reveal it, their timing is absolutely lousy right in the middle of the Levenson Enquiry. That would confirm everyone's worst suspicions about the tabloids.

LOL @ the nosey, voyeuristic British public - the same British public who make reality television such a 'hit' in this country - desperate to know the reasons why a high profile person has committed suicide.....just as soon as they have dotted their own R.I.P

You get the taboid press you deserve, people.

Noticeable that (from what I've heard) not one of his friends and colleagues have said "he had his demons / dark days etc. etc."

What is it that might (seemingly very suddenly) send a normal, successful, well-liked and balanced individual to a state of despair so deep that ending it all seemed the only way out? I guess "I hate you daddy, I never want to see you again" on top of a barrel load of guilt might do it for some, but never having experienced such guilt or depression it's impossible to relate to really.

I don't mean that to come across as speculation but one can't help but wonder what the hell got him to that state. The press won't leave it alone but I hope we don't find out as it is really none of our business.

surely the majority of the british public no longer buy tabloids, but get their news from a variety of online and television sources
the tabliods are forced to scrap between themselves for the minority of braindead morons left who do buy them, which is what makes them desperate to outdo each other in terms of sensationalism
in which case- its not really the peoples fault

also many people i know buy the tabloids for their excellent football coverage- and this would have little to do with the sensational shit on the front page
seems wrong to blame them for that,,,,,,

Tabloids work in internet form just as well - don't forget they're not funded by selling papers, they're funded by advertising so for them it's number of views and click-throughs rather than just number of people buying the paper.

Does anyone here actually read a tabloid? Seriously? I'm not wholly sure how the written press survives in this day and age.

Royal Lady Tredder is spouting his shit on FB. Speculating stuff. Disgusting.

Not even a friend, obsessed.
LOLz.

You posted it on a mutual friend's page. That's how I saw it. And I believe in letting someone rest in peace 24 hours after he's died, rather than speculating why he felt he found it necessary to end his life.

But you're happy to have a dig at the Swansea (&Villa) fans because of the way they showed their appreciation.

That's right. From my own personal opinion, I didn't believe it was respectful of them. If you note, none of the players (including one of his best friends) clapped - they obeyed the minute's "silence" that was requested. And TV coverage clearly showed it was pockets of fans clapping - not the whole lot of them. I just felt that if you're asked to pay your respects in a certain way, the least you can do is honour that request. As I said, they could have clapped and chanted Gary Speed, Gary Speed, Gary Speed all match if they'd wanted to.
