There is a chance that this year we could have the best Academy squad that RFC have ever produced.

Well done to Dolan and his team for the continuing improvement in the RFC Academy.

David Dodds said on the radio the other day that this group was very good and they were hoping for 3 or 4 to break into the first team from it, usually hope for 1 from a particular age group.

3/4 black hole fillers in the current group? What a return!

Yes but there results so far this season and the fact that a few of them have already been given longer than normal contracts suggests that it was more than just rhetoric.

I think the way the finances work we're more likely to give the decent youngster longer contracts these days.

The results of the team don't really reflect how good the few individuals are that will hopefully go on to make it either. It's obviously not a bad thing though.

As much as I hope these kids make it, and I'm sure they're very good prospects, I've heard it all before for longer than I care to remember so until I see a bit more of them I'll remain a bit of a cynic where the clubs PR machine is concerned.

I'm actually upset it didn't go on longer. I thought the Crewe comment would wind up a few more than just FineRain and Winchester.

Going by the players that they've produced in recent years, very tough.

The gulf in class between U18 football and senior football should not be underestimated. It may be a poor comparison but there is a useful crop in the U18s at Windsor. That said, when a few of them played against Shrivenham back iin September, they were akin to startled rabbits. The physicality surprised them.

With a bit of luck and good nurturing, some of the youngsters at Reading will do well and go on to play for the first team. Those that don't may well drop down to some of the local non-league sides which would not be a bad thing either. One player from the past who got no further than the reserves was Mark West who, at Wycombe, achieved legend status with them.

Michael Chambers, a teenage defender at Dulwich Hamlet, is the subject of an unlikely transfer pursuit involving no less than Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and seven other clubs.
Ten teams ranging from United to Bristol City, and including Everton and Aston Villa, were represented at Dulwich Hamlet’s Ryman League fixture last Saturday.

Chambers, 17, plays at centre half for Dulwich, who are top of their division. He is 6ft 2in, left-footed and has a growing reputation for elegance on the ball.
Originally with Millwall and then in Reading’s youth team, Chambers was thought to lack aggression and was released by the Championship club

Look at goals C and D from the Aston Villa game. Not bad!! And you can vote for one of them.

Voted for the half way line effort - seems the Palace fans have mobilised well for this

Great to watch the blue and white hoops at all levels!
