Hoop Blah Snowball, apologies if this has already been asked, but, as your recording assist stats are you recording the a similar stat for the creative player if the chance is missed?

The 'assisters' contribution is exactly the same of course, their worth shouldn't really be quantified but the effectiveness of the person they pass to should it?

It would be nice, Hoop, but very difficult for me to do.

I'd be happy if someone else wanted to feed me such stats though.

very difficult for me to do.

(a) It may often be subjective.

eg was it a brilliant through ball and the striker slow to react
or was the through ball hit a tad too hard? Think Matejovsky

(b) I don't get to all away games so might well miss such passes

It would be fun to get hold of all stats. Number of passes, successful passes, distance run, tackles made etc etc
but I can't get 'em. My assists column is not really meant as a measure of creativity, but simply as a measure of
"genuinely helping to make a goal".

So if Hunt shoots, keeper saves, Manset taps in, I would award an assist to Hunt
but if the ball hits Hunt's backside, he knows nothing about it, and it falls to HRK, I wouldn't award the assist.

I'd also award an assist for winning a penalty, regardless of how valid it is, or whether the pen is scored.

Mr Cinema Possibly Pointless Stat #31

We are unbeaten in the last 27 games against sides currently in the Championship. You have to go back to October last year.Bristol City away

That doesn't seem pointless at all.

Snowball So far our start this season (4 points from 2 games) GD +2, one clean sheet
(without Gylfi, Mills, and now Shane Long) looks better than
last season's 5 points from 4 games, no clean sheets and a GD of 0

Let's see where we are on Saturday evening wrt last year's first four games.

Even if we lose to Pompey & Barnsley we'll only be a point worse off than after 4 games with Gylfi

Should Pearce get an assist or half-assist for Hunt's goal at Leicester?

That is a superb question, worthy of debate. I salute you sir.
Should a player be credited for their part in a goal if they didn't actually touch the ball?

I would (and have) credit Pearce (in my own way and system) because I think it's just as important as Harte's ball in and I have access to RP so could do the same for any goal we score.

Pearce tried the same thing tonight, but the cross failed

I guess that highlights how much it's a team game and success can't just be attributed to one persons contribution in one 30 second set piece, let alone across the whole set of events that make up a series of 90 minute games.

Some of these stats will be interesting though, but only if they're used and applied with the right perspective.

Column 6 Minutes per Goal
Column 7 Minutes per Goal/Assist/Hit WW combined

Also showing "half-assists" wherea second player was clearly involved in the making of a goal, as was
Griffin's assistance to Kebe for the cross to Manset v Millwall, Pearce/Hunt v Leicseter

Last Column (eg HRK "every 43 minutes played", shows Goal (1), Hit Woodwork (.5), assist (1), or secondary assist (.5) )

The lower the number the more productive (attacking-wise) is the player.

1 Goal 0 HW 0.0 Assist 1.0 069 069 069 HRK
2 Goal 0 HW 0.0 Assist 2.0 158 079 079 Manset

Instead of you endless stats can't you just link to existing resources on the web that show the same thing?

1. Because I didn't know they were there?

2. Because I want RFC stats, here, in one thread?

3. And note nobody else bothered to post such links.

So someone who is a stat fanatic didn't know Football365 stats exist? I find that hard to believe.

That website has a lot of RFC stats all on one page and are shown in a much more reader-friendly format. Admittedly you do provide extra stats not available on there some of which are interesting to see.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out
but other sides talk about our "discipline"
meaning (I think) that we don't take chances.

My worry is that we are actually playing a bit defensively. esp first half

Clean Sheets

3 Clean Sheets (100%) First Half
1 Clean Sheets (033%) Second half

Date not yet too meaningful, but might get interesting.

Perhaps, (and it's only a perhaps) we consciously play "not to concede" first half
and then open up second half and concede!!

You mean apart from my writing, doing A-Levels and another degree?

Maybe I don't waste 6 hours every night drinking myself stupid.

I don't see this as a waste of time, and I'd be upset
if the usual suspects didn't attack me.

I take an insult from a fool as a compliment :D

SymonsO Why don't you see it as a waste of time? What do you achieve that makes it worthy of your time?

Stats that reveal things interest me.

Example, a pattern might be emerging suggesting we are playing "too tight"
for too long (eg 3 x 0-0 first halves) (yes I know it's a small sample, so far)
and we certainly seem to be crap from 46-61 minutes... that would be interesting
to test for the whole Mcdermot era

I get plenty of support if not always public.

Doing stats to post isn't the same as doing them for yourself

Sadly Intelligent Design and Creationism get lots of support, it doesn't mean they're in anyway valid.

Although of course, plenty that you say is.
