But it was at Sw*ndon v Millwall last year, then not at Blackpool v Cardiff.

I'd be willing to settle for everybody just singing 'Land of our Fathers' rather than have no anthem just because a couple of sensitive types might get offended.

leon whilst i strongly believe the royal family should be strung up by their f*cking necks - I am struggling to understand why the British national anthem (as much as I hate it for the trite dirge that it is) shouldn't be played?? its the national anthem not the English national anthem surely, maybe i'm missing something

It couldn't possibly be that - because it has been adopted by a lot of English international team - it has come to be seen in the eyes of many as an English anthem? The lines glorifying Wade's campaign against the Scots - who were, after all, only championing the cause of British monarchs in the face of a bunch of foreign invaders - probably only add to that. And we call the Scots rebels.

Row Z Royal Let's all play 'spot the Republican'.

HELLO! *waves*

I'm an atheist, too, so zero interest in singing the most dirgeful and meaningless anthem in the world. Why can't we have something fun like the Marseillaise? We get a bedtime prayer, the French are all swearing eternal brootherhood and to keep fighting until they're drowing in Royalist blood.

Well, go and cross the channel if it really bothers you!

Thanks, but I'll just continue not to sing it, and be jealous of the French.

I quite like I Vow To Thee as an anthem. Ok, I know it glorifies war in a way that is little uncomfortable now, but it does seem to capture for me the spirit of what a national anthem should be all about, in a way that our current dirge doesn't even come close to.

The National Anthem could be our Royal Anthem!

I don't wanna start another team song debate, but as the only professional team in the Royal county why the heck not? Everybody knows the words, and it's a very loud and emotive anthem!

Let's see how it sounds when everyone is singing it Monday, but I reckon as club anthems go it would be pretty special!
