Hampshire Royal Last year was 'a season of two halves, Brian'. First half crap, second half brilliant - about as exciting as it can get after such a start. To say that we are only 11th this season without any sort of qualification (game in hand on most teams above us, 6th Round FA Cup, finding form at the right time, is simply clutching at straws to try and prove a point that is rapidly being shown to be false.

I have always said that we will go up this season, and so we will - maybe through the playoffs!!

We're 11th...........out of 24

You are welcome to argue that that is not mid table if you like, but I'd have to disagree.

If we finish above 8th, you will have a point.

have to agree with Schards.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but we have far too much to do/too many other clubs need to stumble to even reach the play-offs.

11/24 is mid-table and my guess is we'll finish tenth. No complaints from me if so, I just hope we can keep our best players and push on next season.

My money, if I had to commit it at this stage, would be on an 8th place finish.

We are 11th, I agree, and if the season finished now we would finish 'mid-table'. This is not, however, a mediocre season, nor was last season, or the season before. We have a realistic chance of promotion and while we do I will continue to expect that we will go up. If we win our game in hand we will be 7th and only 3 points off the playoffs.

You can, of course, put your own spin on things.

Snowball 7 of our ten games are against sides in the bottom 8 on current form

1 of our ten games is against 13th on form

1 of our ten games is against 10th on form

The other is against Pompey, 2nd in the form table (but at home)

And your definition of "current form" is?

Sorry Arch, I meant the form table used by Snowball. He outlines it in another thread and uses the last six games. We are third on that table, behind QPR and Pompey.

According to the "run-In" table on Football365 :

http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/runin.html

our "season long" form and our "recent form" give exactly the same result - 69.0 points.

We're one of the few teams where there's no difference between those two figures.

Hampshire Royal What is 'Recent form' on bet365?

Their table is 8 games.

Of our remaining games we have to play the current 1, 7 and 8 in the top half and 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23 and 24
so on current form and the table we appear to have a good run in. The only form/table swap is Portsmouth are top form and Forest are down at 19!

By the time we play the teams at the end of the season their current form will be different so all this analysis of a team we are playing in 8-9 games time on current form is a little daft.

If we win or draw at Barnsley, then our current form will change again. If we lose, it won't.

No – so far we’ve got 23 points from 18 matches away from home, an average of 1.28 points per match.

So unless we somehow get 1.28 points from that game (impossible!) then our form will improve if we win or decrease if we draw or lose.

Sorry, I thought you said that current form was taken as the results of the last 8 games. I'm again assuming that it's League games. The first game of the last 8 was a defeat to QPR, so that if we win or draw then our recent form improves. Don't complicate things by bringing in home and away, as surely if we take a random number of games, the chances are that the H & A will be broadly equal.

99% of you ARE foreigners, actually.

I was using the final 15 games for each club, but the "form" above is straight from Statto, the last six games.

if you only look at the last 15 game, we have played FIVE (of the 15) WWWDD and are averaging 2.2 points per game
All the other sides have played 6 in the same time period.

if you only look at games in each club's final 15 Reading are at the top of the form table.

I used Statto's "Last 6" because it's available but it makes RFC look LESS in-form

On the last 6 games, joint second or third (I posted it somewhere)

On the last 15 games only 5/6 played 9/10 to play we are TOP on 2.2 points per game

Forest, a crucial game is very soon, so current form applies

To not take note of the fact that we are playing
most of (a) the bottom sides and (b) sides way off form
seems a bit silly.

OUR form is good, most of our opponents are not playing well (Pompey excepted and Leeds are doing OK 1.5ppg)
