SLAMMED Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes.

Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 12 votes (Russia obtain absolute majority)

How can only 2 people vote for us. There is definitely something dodgy about it.

Given England's bid was designated as technically strong by FIFA then its a mighty poor outcome....and certainly suspicious.
However I don't have a problem with Russia getting it. I know it was probably done with back-handers but I'm in favour of different countries having the chance to be host country. Why should Western Europe be hosts so often? Its a global game.

Victor Meldrew Face up to it, a lot of the rest of the world don't like us and it's hardly surprising when you see our folk when they step away from our little island and behave as if they own the world

Where does that ever happen? The reality is that British people are generally quite a decent bunch - people like you enjoy spinning the myth about how we're all football hooligans or how we only go on holiday to Ibiza and fight each other in the street but that simply isn't the case. How many people do you actually know who do this?

Russians, Israelis and South Africans are meant to be hideous holiday makers; arrogant and constantly demanding.

The reputation that VM is refering to is, I would imagine, the stereo-typed Brit in Benidorm on a Club 18-30 holiday.

Yeah I was asking someone I met when I was travelling who had previously worked for tour firms who the worst were and she said Israelis. I ws quite surprised actually.

Victor Meldrew Not many on here will take notice of you Soggy,so many have their preconceived ideas of everything outside of the UK.
Already everyone else is more corrupt than us-yes,in a year when the majority of our MPs have been diddling their expenses including our current prime minister.

Ours was the best bid-did everybody read all of the others and ours and make comparisons or do we take whatever is printed in The Sun as fact?

Ours was the best presentation today-did they all listen in depth to the others?

As for Beckham (I won't disappoint you Foxy)-does he not realise that people in other countries have grandads?
And as for the I won this,I won that,I won the other, I got us to the world cup-I thought it was a team game Becks.

As for Johnny come lately Cameron and a member of our Royal Family-I'm not sure the rest of the world is really interested.

I think English people ought to ask themselves why these other countries don't like us?
On the face of it the bid should have been a shoe-in on historical grounds because of it being 44 years during which Germany for example have had it twice and we are a footballing nation and the venue was to be in Europe.

Face up to it, a lot of the rest of the world don't like us and it's hardly surprising when you see our folk when they step away from our little island and behave as if they own the world.
We are the Milwall of Europe and many of our people don't even want to be in Europe unless they want to go there on holiday.
Oh well all the Little Englanders can blame Sepp Blatter,FIFA,BBC,Sunday Times et al because somebody has to be blamed.

Amen, put much better than I was able to.

Accusations will be made, toys will be thrown out of prams, grapes will be very sour. All of which just goes to emphasise the sterling points you have made above.

Unfortunately the bad behaviour is the behaviour which gets all the publicity.

Will the headline be: 'Drunken Brits brawl in the streets' or 'Well behaved Brits behave nicely?'

Tbh I find British ex-pats a pretty unedifying bunch when I've met them in various places, slow to assimilate, won't learn the language etc.

It has been said, BUT how the oxf*rd can you give the world cup to the most racist country in the world????

I remember Bikey talking about how he feared for his life and that he was gobbed on and verbally abused , even on public transport in the middle of the day.

Royalee Sepp Blatter's FIFA, the cancer which is killing football.

Thought that was Steve Coppell?

I'm more suprised that I was surprised with my reaction to something I didn't think we'd win in the first place.

It would be nice to see if wikileaks can get thier hands on information on the FIFA members and the way they casted their votes.

Can't comment on the presentations, but the technical committee did score us as the best bid didn't they? In other words we had the best facilities (planned or already existing) and all the right factors to making it a successful tournament.

As I said earlier today, I think this comes down to leaving a legacy and probably the egos of this involved. That and the relative money involved somewhere along the line.

Mr Angry
BR2 ..... as Soggy said whatever way it goes can we just accept it and if it goes against us then be gracious and further accept that those other countries don't like us very much and don't go all orgasmic (as MrA did earlier) at the sight of three spivs in suits, Dave,Dave and Wills prostituting themselves.

You really are a Class A cock aren't you???

I'm afraid you really did sound like a starstruck 15 year old girl in that earlier posting.
Nothing wrong with 15 year old girls btw.

ZacNaloen What is it with Brits and putting themselves down?

We've been voted something like the second best tourists overall by a poll comissioned by expedia? we were only behind the japanese.

It's just not true that we are disliked when we go abroad.

Zac,
What were the criteria?
Behaviour?
Amount of money spent?
It's just not good enough to say "a poll said"
You might just as well say "a Pole said"

And what's your criteria for stating we are disliked abroad?

I didn't start Snowballing with "facts" ,Zac did.
All I can say is that from personal experience of travelling abroad I have often felt embarrassed by the behaviour of my fellow Englishmen and women and there is often the feeling that we are more arrogant than those we like to mock,The Germans.

In answer to Maguire,none.
So that puts me 1-0 up whereas in your opinion presumably knowing all of those lovely people who have never puked all over the streets of the very Ibiza that you mentioned you would assume a 1-0 lead.
Whateva-not worth discussing really is it so shall we say 1-1?

Svlad Cjelli Agreed, except the bit about Platini. UEFA have no say in any of this - it's not a hierarchy of FA > UEFA > FIFA as many people think.

UEFA is actually just a competition organiser, they aren't in the middle at all, and can't influence FIFA directly. All their member associations belong to FIFA too, but UEFA has no authority therein.

UEFA can certainly exert a bit of pressure on it's members to work together for the good of Euorpean football though. To totally dismiss its relevance and importance is being a bit naive isn't it?

Being reported that England's second vote came from Issa Hayatou, president of teh African Federation. Amazing when you consider he was one of the "Panorama Three."
