prostak Great move for him. And a move to a club where he'll get some games, in the best league in Europe for nurturing youth, is better than going to benchwarm at Arsenal. Quite funny to see criticism on here from people who've never watched a Bundesliga match. Really pleased for him with regard to the league, just a shame that he's gone to the German version of Wigan Athletic (except even more plastic).

More like the German version of Charlton from a few years ago. Good until Christmas and then they drop like a stone or a German war effort start well and finish badly (one for 2ww1wc there).

They've had two seasons in the Bundesliga, so perhaps a little early to assign such a trend to them. That first season went downhill after several injuries occurred, most significantly to the striker Ibišević, as well as some infighting (seemingly centred around Carlos Eduardo, who Gylfi is supposedly replacing) and general associated chaos. Last season was more one of consolidation and broadening the strength of the squad.

My Wigan comment was more to do with their artificial rise through the league pyramid thanks to one rich megalomaniac throwing money at them, naming everything after himself.

MmmMonsterMunch Funny how the black hole gets bigger each time though isn't it?

Can someone please explain what possible benefit we gained from the PL because I'm struggling to comprehend how we go from 8th in PL to this?

I think ytou will find the beneficiaries are the players and the people who sell them their cars/houses etc.

Despite the drop in wages after relegation the amount of money disappearing weekly to players wages makes some of the transfer values seem like small change. Even our recent record transfer is not that much towards the annual wage bill for players. So although all the spotlight is on the amounts paid in transfers they may not be the most relevant numbers to look at.

Definitely  @ Reading Fans.

Sig out, Harte and Hendrie in. If it wasn't happening to the club I follow I'd laugh forever. It's almost unbelievable. If someone told you that was going to happen 3 years ago, 2 years ago, 1 year ago or even last month or even 2 days ago you'd think they'd gone mad.

It says everything we need to know about this "well-run club". (Cue JM apologists.)

By the way, what happened to Matty Fryatt or was he too expensive at over £50K?

Yes, looks like it could already be built with another level to go in without having to change it.

Yeah, I'll do it.. my German's not perfect, but I'll give it a go.

It's q&a.

Q: Gylfi, welcome to Hoffenheim. What's your first impression of your new workplace?
A: It's great here. In particular the training facilities are the best I have ever made use of.
.
.
.
Q: Are you then an option to play against Schalke?
A: Possibly. That is up to the manager to decide.

Thanks.

My first thoughts were you'd do a joke translation, but that's actually very good.
Bravo (or however that's said in German)

I've not seen many Bundesliga games so can't comment other than my gut feeling.

Hence why I have the strength of character and honesty to retract my earlier statement that it would be better for him to eye a Premiership move with the likes of Arsenal.

But my same lack of knowledge on the subject leads me to research further and change my mind again - most people haven't heard of this club and if they really are a Wigan/Charlton of German football I can only laugh at the assertion that it was a fantastic move and stick to my guns. Not that I particularly care either way.

I've spoken to two people affiliated with the club today who have said it was a poor move for him careerwise and have agreed with my albeit admittedly underqualified opinion and were rather perplexed that he should make a poor career move like this.

We can believe what we want - this may have been a better move than waiting to shine more in the UK and being snapped up by a better team, or it may have been better to eye the Prem. No one position is obviously right and if pros can't decide, I certainly can't. But the fact is it's questionable and everyone will have their equally valid opinion.

FWIW I side with people far more knowledgeable than myself and folk on here: he'd be better off eyeing a Prem move than jumping ship so soon.

Good luck Gylfi.
