Pompey were dealt a huge blow today after the taxman launched an appeal against the club's deal with creditors.
Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) confirmed to The News that it had applied for the deal, which was Pompey's route out of administration, to be revoked or suspected.
A spokesman for HMRC said it was appealing on two grounds.
The first was that the interests of HMRC 'have been or will be unfairly prejudiced' by the agreement.
The second was that there were 'irregularities' in the way the votes of creditors were taken to secure the agreement.
Any creditor who disagreed with the proposals of the CVA had until midnight tonight to appeal against it.
Lawyers for HMRC have lodged the appeal with the High Court in London and served notice of the appeal to the club's administrators.
HMRC is known to be unhappy with the club's proposals to pay creditors back 20p in the pound.
It is also unhappy Pompey's administrators have reduced HMRC's claim from £37m to £24m.
Until the appeal is resolved Pompey will remain under a transfer embargo.
The club will also not be able to appoint a new owner without receiving a points deduction from the Football League, as they will still be in administration.
