Stat requests

by SCIAG » 16 Jan 2010 20:36

Hello. Kadzidlo, the Reading researcher for Sports Interactive, is busy doing the important stuff (i.e. making McAnuff better than Ronaldo etc.), so he asked me to find out the following:

Lowest Attendance
Oldest player
Most games without conceding/scoring
Highest scorer in one season- Archie?
most goals in one match- I'm pretty sure this is the 18-0 defeat
Youngest and Oldest goal scorers - wasn't youngest set quite recently?

For the attendance, only home matches count. All statistics relate to competitive matches, except the streaks, which are league matches only (no cups).

If any of you are aware of the holders of any of these records, or can make an informed guess- if you know of a 56 year old to play for Reading and score- then it would be much appreciated if you replied here saying so.

We'd also need relevant dates, and the opposing side, if possible.

Thanks in advance :)

Strap is your man.

And it certainly isn't Archie for most goals in a season (Didn't Quinn get close to 40 or over in the early 90s?). Blackman I think though, no idea on the season, well before my time.

Got Archie and Jimmy the wrong way around... Quinn's the ginger one who drunk himself to death, yeah?

Apparently it is Blackman, and furthermore that's actually only league goals... sorry, I'm third in the chain.

Most games without conceeding should be fairly easy, We did hold the record for about 20 years after all.

1103 minutes over 11 games (Steve Death) over two seasons iirc. 79/80 & 80/81 ? Or was it earlier?

Lowest Attendance

League - 1943 v Preston North End on 2nd Oct 1982

Ever? Possibly the 1136 v Bournemouth in the Tonka Toy Trophy (or whatever it was called then) in Aug 1982

Inc. away games? - 631 v Chester City in March 1991

Oldest player

Pass

Most games without conceding/scoring

Without conceding, 1103 minutes = 11 games and a bit between March and Aug 1979 (between losing 1-0 at Rochdale and drawing 2-2 with Brentford)

Without scoring, don't think there's a stand out record on this, we've "achieved" a run of 6 on three occasions:

13 - 30 April 1925
29 March - 3 May 2008 and, technically,
9 January - 3 March 2009 (the only goal scored was an own goal by Wolves)

Highest scorer in one season

Trevor Senior bagged 41 in 1983/84 (36 in league)

most goals in one match

If you mean most by a player in one game then I think that's Arthur Bacon who got 6 in a 7-3 home win over Stoke in April 1931

Youngest and Oldest goal scorers - wasn't youngest set quite recently?

no idea

Anyone remember the end of the 2006 season, when we went up in the Play-Off Final?

From my current game:

'Reading will play Sheffield United in the Coca-Cola Championship Playoff Final

Reading and Sheffield United actually played each other in the final of the Coca-Cola Chmpionship back in 2006, with The Royals lifting the trophy on that occasion'

The Preston game is the lowest league gate, but i beleive the figure was 1,713.

Its def not the 1,943 stated in Heaven on Earth, only 1,934 were in attendance for the Bradford Game 30/04/91.

That's a bug, not a data issue. I'll flag it for you. Are you patched?

That's what I thought when I checked the figure in H&E, I thought it was 1713 as well but thought the book would be accurate and that I was dreaming originally!

I attempted to google for this and found a website that lets you find out this sort of info. It said Shane Long was the youngest and Ulises de la Cruz was the oldest. However, I realised that this was bullshit because it was confined to the Premier League.

For league goals only, it was Ronnie Blackman with 39 in either 50/51 or 51/52

Could well be (and I was there when he scored his first). I will have to go through my stats when I get home.
